I don’t think we should extend the deadline for cache of the year as the number of votes seems to be in line with cache of the month voting. Since this is a first effort it probably will be slow to start but with a little effort by all of us to interest other people it should be bigger and better next year. This will also allow the January cache of the month voting to get started.

I’ve noticed a flaw in cache of the month in that some caches that have been around for a relatively long time get nominated. I doubt that we want to make this complicated, but it seems that nominees for cache of the month should have been place in or just prior to that month.

With the growth of our numbers, many new cachers are finding older caches and to them, it is their cache of the month. See my point? I agree that COTY just needs to get off the ground.

The problem is, a fantastic new cache might pop up in the north woods in January. Being from Kenosha and with family, much as I would like to, I can’t just pop up there to seek it out. However, in June if I take the family up camping, then I’ll have the chance to find it, then yees, I’d nominate it for COTM, even though it’s been five months since it was first placed.

I would suggest that once a cache has won, it would be ineligible for future months, though. I suppose that this is where having some kind of award graphic on the page would be handy, to make new finders aware of the fact that a WGA COTM exists.

There has been some discussion regarding to what makes a cache eligible for nomination. As some great caches were created prior to WGA’s existance, we flet it best to leave any cache that has never won COTM to be eligible for nomination. If a new cacher hits an old cache and nominates it, seeing its listed may prompt some old timers to remember what a grat hunt it was and cast their vote for it. Or they may choose or nominate another.

The nomination process just gets a cache listed on the ballot with a single vote, and others may then choose to vote likewise. And if a cache comes in a close second one month, who knows, it may get nominated again the next month.
