This idea is basically something that came to me as I finished up the Delorme & Counties Challenges. We did several of the 52 Pick up series by Lil Otter that had since been adopted, we had some interest in doing the remainder of the series and found that several of the caches were permanently archived. Which given the ones we had done seemed such a waste. I have seen something similar here in the Milwaukee area with a cacher that permanently archived their caches after a medical problem.
I know we are relative Newbies (not yet at 1 year caching) but it seems that it would be worthwhile to find those old “good” caches that have slipped away and see if we cant get a local cacher to place a cache in the area the previous one was and try to recreate some of those lost good or great caches.
I don’t know if this is even possible, but thoughts and suggestions please? I am not even sure how to locate these lost caches either but I figure some of the veterans maybe can name some of them or remember cachers who have since stopped caching

The idea is good, but getting cachers to place in those particular locations might be a long process. I’m thinking in terms of remoteness from the populations centers.

My experience in the Fox Valley has been that a newbie will come along and put a cache in the same location a previous cache was in. There are at least 5 caches I can think of that duplicates earlier hides. Says something about the location just needing a cache.

ok I thought it was a good idea. I see I am outnumbered. Thanks for at least looking at the posting 😀

Where are all the other comments?

No one else has anything to say?

I don’t know if they are still listed, but time was, when you clicked on Lil Otter’s profile, you could see all the caches ascribed to her. Since most have been adopted by others of us, perhaps what’s left on her profile would be those “missing” caches. If archived, there’d be a red line struck through the cache name.

I know that back in the day, many of the waterfall caches were part of a big puzzle she set up. Before our time, but Timberline Echoes has mentioned that.

If you really want to do this, you can find the caches listed at: Bookmark List. If someone wants the coordinates for the mystery caches, I can get that for you as well, but those caches no longer meet the guidelines, so you should probably set them up as traditionals.

I looked at a lot of the caches that have been archived in the Milwaukee area and also a fair number of the 52 Pick Up list. Marc hit the nail on the head most of those in Milwaukee now have new caches in the area that would create a proximity issue. Of Lil Otters it seems some guy called Neil Young has several close enough to create proximity issues, or there are new caches of the same theme nearby now.

I do not think I ever did any Lil Otter caches in the Milw area.

Neil Young is a nom de plume of Zuma.

Sorry if I confused people. What I meant was caches in the Milwaukee area that had been archived and Lil Otter caches. I didn’t mean Lil Otter caches in Milwaukee.
