Is was just looking at the cache rescue page and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of new missions on there compared to all the caches that WGA2 has just archived.
Which brings me to my question. Who puts the missions on this mission page? Can anyone submit a mission or is it the reviewers or a designated BOD member? Or has this feature been put to the back of the parking lot for a while?
10/14/2007 at 12:50 am #1880138Anybody can submit a cache rescue mission.
Do you have a cache at your cabin, and you haven’t been able to make it up there to take care of it due to other obligations? Post a cache rescue and see if somebody more local can help out.
Did you find a cache out in the woods only later to find that it has been archived? Post a cache rescue mission.
You should still use “Should Be Archived” notes on the geocaching.com to bring broken or disabled caches to the attention of the reviewers, not the cache rescue system.
10/14/2007 at 2:52 am #1880139So what you are saying is when a reviewer archives a cache due to inactivity on the owner anyone can submit a rescue mission?
Or for arguments sake, any individual can request a mission on any given cache out there? Even if it doesn’t really need rescuing?
10/14/2007 at 6:10 am #1880140I come to wi-geocaching and read the forums almost daily, and never even notice the cache rescue link before(two above the forums, I must be blind).
Anyway I was glad to see River cache (GC611) listed on the rescue list until I realized this wasn’t really a rescue list. This is a list of cache sites that require cleanup of possible old geo-trash and broken containers.
River cache being such a cool location and one of the oldest caches in the state it was somewhat sad to see it go. It was one of the many geocaches near baraboo that has went missing this year.

Anyone can submit a cache rescue mission for any cache, but it is primarily for the cleanup of archived caches and for owners to request help with their caches. Note that you could submit a rescue mission for a cache that is not yours (and possibly does not need maintenance)… we’ve never had a mission like this submitted, and obviously we’d take a closer look at things if a non-owner submitted a mission.

So far, we’ve mostly used it for the cleanup of archived caches, but the option exists for using it to report that maintenance is needed on a cache.
Maybe it could be modified to also list caches needing adoption? That way owners who could no longer maintain a cool cache could list it there, and someone else could take care of it (thus rescuing it).

I’m with you on this one. This was maybe my 20th find way back in 2001, and it is still in my “top ten” list… I wish there were more caches like that one…
10/14/2007 at 11:26 am #1880142I have a multi cache which I have disabled due to continuing vandalism. I’d like to change the listing from a multi, and leave the final in place as an individual standalone cache. The final has survived muggling since we relocated it awhile back.
It does not look like I can edit this much on the cache listing. Will I need to disable the whole multi and then re-do the listing and re-submit it for approval?
The other legs of the multi will be removed. At this point I do not know if they will be moved a bit and converted to individual caches or not. We have not had very good luck with them staying in good shape.
Thanks, Grandpa Jim
10/14/2007 at 3:04 pm #1880143If you do change the cache from a mulit to a single, anyone who has done the cache as a multi will loose credit for that multi, and gain a credit for a single stage. I had to consider this very same thing for my cache For Those About to Rock because it was continuously being muggled. I opted to archive it and create a whole new listing. NEMESIS #12 For Those About to Rock
10/14/2007 at 3:29 pm #1880144You can have the cache type changed by a reviewer if you need that done….
10/15/2007 at 4:39 pm #1880145As a reviewer, I would echo TDSC’s comments. I would suggest that you create a new cache and archive the multi. If you don’t want finders of the multi to find your “new” traditional, you can indicate this in the cache listing. If you INSIST on converting the existing cache from a multi to a traditional, we can do this for you, but it is not recommended.
10/15/2007 at 10:57 pm #1880146OK, thanks.
I do not have my heart set on any particular course of action. I appreciate everybody’s input!
