I just bought Cachemate and it’s on my Palm. Now what? I’m ok with computers and technology but it’s been a long week and I don’t know where to go from here to get a query onto Cachemate. If anyone can help, I’d be very grateful.

Get your Pocket Query from GC in .gpx format, (I forgot, I’m using GSAK. If you’re not I’m not helping.) To get around my virus software, I have to save the file rather than open it right into GSAK. Put your folder over GSAK and drag the file onto GSAK and drop it. A pop-up will come up, just click ok and the file will open in GSAK. From there you can create an export file in one of the first dropdowns that will load next time you do a Hot Synch operation. The Florida geocachers have an excellent article at their site, that Marc and Gizfinder tipped me off to. It goes step by step through the same process. Good luck!

I believe this is the article you are referring to:

It does assume you are using GSAK. But I know MB doesn’t use GSAK, just cachemate to load to her Palm unit. Can’t tell you how tho – sorry.

Thank you!!! That article really helped. It showed me step-by-step, with graphics. Since I’m a visual learner, it made it really simple. Thank you again!
I really like Cachemate compared to Mobipocket, which was painfully slow. . . .

I am LOVING Cachemate. Mobipocket was just really slow and was more of a hinderance than a help. Plucker was an option but the set up scared the heck out of me. Too much work. Cachemate is so easy to set up and use. And it’s really fast and easy to pull up a specific cache. I know this sounds like a commercial, but I’m so glad I bought it. It’s always a pleasant surprise when something you purchased actually works like you hoped it would. LOL I can’t wait to get out there and use it!

I had tried Plucker and found it quite cumbersome, especially the uploading. I really like the way that GSAK will export directly in cachemate format, and even prep the hotsync for the palm.
I really like the ease of GSAK/Cachemate/Palm
also makes it easy to make multiple databases on the Palm for different regions. we did one just for the last event we went to, then it isn’t cluttered with too many far away caches.

i even put a little icon on the tool bar in GSAK for cachemate. all i have to do is click the icon and away we go…

I have been looking at getting gsak, but can’t quite justify the (admittedly small) expense. I find Cachemate pretty easy to use with pocket queries. For those that have tried both, is GSAK a big help in using Cachemate?

Having owned GSAK before Cachemate, I can’t imagine not having GSAK. It’s so nice to be able to sort things and filter out certain caches before loading them onto my Palm. GSAK is also a really nice way to just keep track of what you’ve found. To be honest with you, I don’t know how to load stuff onto Cachemate without it. LOL
I think everyone kind of geocaches differently so I don’t think it’s a matter of it being the “right” way to do it. It’s certainly the easiest way I’ve found thusfar, though. Just my two cents! LOL

Having gone caching with Mr. Team Honeybunnies and seeing him use his PDA and a bad cache hunt later due to me not having the print out I decided to try the PDS thing.

I downloaded GSAK and been using it for a whole 5 days now and even had my 1st Pocket Query. Not sure why I waited so long to do one but WOW . That is so nice I now have all caches in 200 mile radius around my house.

Why didn’t someone hit me over the head earlier to try out all this?

Anyhow, I look more forward to getting the rest of the items to go fully paperless.

I used to do that all the time but the WGA Board made me stop! Now all I have is the keyboard on our computer.

Don’t worry about it, it took me almost 3 years to go paperless. Recently I had caches for Washington DC, Milwaukee, Port Washington, Green Bay, Door County and Appleton down loaded to my gps and palm. I was in all of these places in an 8 day period. It worked great.

    Ok…

This did not take long for me to come up with a question.

I have 524 waypoints in GSAK.

When I export to cachemate it only preps 509 waypoints.

    1. Why only 509? – I have the setting on don’t limit
    2. How in the world can I tell which ones were left out with out doing a 1 to 1 comparison?

No idea. . . . Good question, though!
