Every now and then you meet someone who deserves to be recognized, not for the number of caches that they found, or the number of counties they’ve cached in or some of the other commonly recognized stats, but rather what they have done for others in the geocaching community. ks9wi is one of those people. Keith was the first visitor that I had in the hospital after I severely broke my leg last May. He kept in touch throughout the entire recovery process. In July Keith (and k0rpl) organized a very successful event called Cachers Rehab. That alone really kept me going during what was a long recovery period in which I was unable to participate in any caching activities. As soon as I was able to get around somewhat with crutches, Keith took it upon himself to help me get out and find a number of local caches that had been hid since my injury. I’ll never forget the joy I experienced of finding sixteen caches that first day (as well as the almost total exhaustion). Almost every weekend after that day Keith took the time to go out “caching with a cripple”. I’m sure that he could have racked up really big numbers during that period, but he chose to continue to help with my rehab. I’ve recovered physically almost 90% now, and today Keith and I did 4 caches together, ending with a mile long hike on the last find. I am so grateful to Keith for his friendship and all of the caching we’ve done together this summer. Please join me in giving Keith a big “pat on the back”.

10/14/2007 at 9:16 pm #1880217Frizz, If there were a Cacher of the Month award, Keith certainly sounds like someone who should receive it. It’s always heartening to find friends who will help you through the hard times, just because they want to.
A big high five to Keith!
10/14/2007 at 9:39 pm #1880218He sounds like a great friend, and deserves the recognition. Way to be Keith!!!
10/14/2007 at 9:56 pm #1880219Way to go, Keith!
10/14/2007 at 11:32 pm #1880220Way to go Gus!!! Glad to see Frizz is back up and getting around!
Aren’t the Local cachers great!!!
10/15/2007 at 12:02 am #1880221Keith,
It is great that you have taken the time out of your summer to help a friend recover and keep up on a sport that helps us all get away from our individual issues. I can certainly understand the feelings Frizz has at this moment, but not being good with words I cannot express how much this probably means to him. Having good friends in a time of need usually turns them into great friends.
You are an asset to the caching community.
10/15/2007 at 12:14 am #1880222I guess saying I’m really appreciative is really an understatement. It’s the least I could do for a true friend. I met Larry at a names and faces event in Appleton and we have become really good friends. So I probably should thank Marc for having the event as well. Thanks Marc!!!!
Thanks to all who have responded. I’ve met several really nice people since i started caching.
Thanks again,
Keith
10/15/2007 at 1:37 am #1880223Keith sounds like he is a great friend! i agree with those qualities listed by Frizz, He should be Cacher of the Month, if there was such a thing!
10/15/2007 at 2:50 am #1880224Awwwww. This is such a sweet gesture! Frizz is such a trooper for getting out there and caching as hard as he has during his recovery. Way to show no mercy dude! Keith has gone above and beyond but in doing so has proved that is an incredible friend. No one else deserves this honor more.
Way to go Dad! You’re awesome!
