Due to a lack of time to maintain caches and a declining interest in the game, we would like to adopt out any of the following caches that people would be interested in owning. If they are part of a series the idea would be to adopt the entire series. We will probably archive anything that doesn’t get adopted.
Thanks.

On the Left Side of the Road...03/06/2015 at 6:19 pm #2036804Hmm… I am no help here, but I am sure there are some cachers up there who are willing to lend a hand. The Hotel Hell cache looks especially notable; I think that should be the #1 cache to preserve. If you don’t get a WGA’er to help, maybe try e-mailing benny7210 or Doctor Doolittle to help out on that one…
03/06/2015 at 7:11 pm #2036809It would be a shame for the Hotel Hell cache to go, although someone else could place a new one. But that place was great! I’ve done a few on this list but I’m afraid they’re all too far away for me to adopt. I hope that someone can!

So many good ones I’ve done but a lot I haven’t even looked at.
Just did Galloping Gobbler last weekend!
Too far for me from the Valley, Michael but if they get archived I will help out with those nice ammo cans and even do the rescues/geo clean up for you.

03/06/2015 at 8:13 pm #2036815Pulaski is a stretch for Todd to get to too. I knew they had to be a ways from my old hometown because I didn’t recognize any of the names as being close when we were living there before we moved out here. I know I would’ve have passed up the LOTR series if it would’ve been anywhere close to home.
Good luck getting them adopted!

03/06/2015 at 8:41 pm #2036821I’m pondering the Face The Music series. Two I haven’t found yet but got the coords. One I think is missing.
That was a fun and challenging series. Got a shout out to Prestontucker for the LOTC.
Give me a couple days or so to work something out.03/07/2015 at 7:53 am #2036842I’d love to help you out, Michael, but I have just too many of my own to maintain. You’ve got some excellent caches out there and am sorry to hear that you’re giving it up. It was a lot of your caches that got me going in this game.

03/07/2015 at 9:17 am #2036843While the Face The Music series seems to be within my area, I haven’t solved them all and probably never will. As for the other caches, it seems I don’t get to those areas enough to actually maintain anything except for a couple of WOSM caches. I know you’d like to keep your series together if at all possible, so I’ll have to pass on adopting any caches. Thanks for thinking of me WA.

03/07/2015 at 9:26 am #2036845Sorry I can’t help you out Michael, especially after you were the one to help me with my first hide. Also sorry to see you go, but I understand life and its priorities change. Best of luck to you!
08/25/2017 at 7:04 am #20560951st.Noel is looking to adopt caches in the Oconto or Marinette area if anyone is looking to shed some extra caches.

06/08/2021 at 2:38 pm #2068290From 2tinkers: A while ago I adopted one of Gizfinder’s caches, 3999 But Who’s Counting GCZX77. Its time for me to ask if someone else could please take it over. I’m getting to the point where I can’t get out to check on them anymore. I would be a shame to lose one of Giz’s orginals. If you can’t solve it, I’ll tell you how. Would someone please adopt this cache?
04/04/2023 at 8:38 am #2071508This thread seemed like as good a place as any to post an update on the generally poor state of affairs with all seldom|seen physical finals.
There was a time when I, like so many of us in the early years, could and would respond quickly to NM logs or suspected MIA caches when a few DNFs appeared. And for the most part we keep a good handle on it back then, when we had the time and energy.
Many of us old-timers got so much out more out of the game by creating a vast amount of caches. Most of mine at least, had little to do with physical location and more to do with the many other aspects of gameplay and problem-solving. I think it’s fair to say that many of us, gotta_run and myself included, got way out in front of our skis because the final field signature became less important than the thrill of the whole cache solve experience.
Of course, the simple remedy is always staring us in the face. Archive that stuff! But, for the many who’ve experienced the creation or the thrill of a tough solve and eventual find of an early puzzle cache, we understand just how much time and energy went into their creation and letting these go, particularly in one fell swoop, it gut-wrenching.
I have hit that wall several times in recent years, ready to pull the trigger and move on, but have never quite been able to hit the archive button and kill them all. Ii just feels like a tremendous waste, even though I know today’s cachers are not getting the same experience they once did.
That’s the long way of getting to the point of this thread, a couple points actually. For new cachers, I am well aware of the questionable state of many of my physical finds and increasingly broken links to achieved or missing web links. While I try to get to those, the priority of geocaching has fallen of the simmer plate and behind the stove. I appreciate your patience and willingness in many cases to help out with cache replacements!
I am going to do some spring cleaning soon. That will mean the archiving of many caches and I hope the adoption of many others. On the one hand, the geocaching experience should not be lessened because I can no longer invest the time needed. On he other hand, there’s just too much good meat on the bones of these caches that I can’t stomach throwing them all to the dogs.
So, thanks for listening and I will stop back here soon with a list of caches I hope the Fox Valley community can step in to save.

04/04/2023 at 4:50 pm #2071509Might you consider Archiving/Adopting your hides by Favorite Points? Keep your most loved caches active while doing what you can with the others. Of 300 hides in almost 16 years, we only have about 30 active…the best of the best. We have enjoyed your hides, at least, the ones we could solve! Geocaching has certainly evolved over the years; sometimes good, sometimes not. We hope it all works out for you.
04/04/2023 at 5:44 pm #2071510Funny that this thread that I started 8 years ago still lives on and some of the caches I was hoping to adopt out have had no takers. Now I am looking to archive them but rather than leave geo-trash I have submitted rescue missions after which they will be archived.
Geocaching used to be something we did, and then one day we just didn’t.
Life moves on.
