In it’s infinite wisdom, The Waushara County Park committee has decided that a cache in the parks would be considered litter, and have denyed the use of caches in them. I’m sorry, angry, and apologetic that the county has again shown their forward thinking intelligence!!! I will be pulling my caches and archiving them. I will try to place them in other areas of the county or nearby counties. Dougger

Bummer… I wonder if they would be willng to consider the policy that the DNR adopts, once its finished.

I sure hope so. Waushara co. is a very pretty co. If you would email me the DNR regs when are ready, I will forward them to the county committe. Hopefully they will change their mind. I thought I did a good job of explaining what geocaching is and even directed to the website. I also explained our cache in trash out philosophy. To no avail I guess. I appreciate your suggestion. Thank you!

We should all band together in a letter writing campaigne when the doors are closed on geocaching.

I mentioned the upcomming DNR policy to the park administrator, and He would be interested in looking at it. At least that’s a step in the right direction. I will keep you posted on the progress. Again, thanks for your help. Dougger

can anyone shed some new light on this very old thread?
when i began caching in April ’06, I thought that I saw something about Waushara county not allowing caches in any county owned parks but I can no longer find that information anywhere. Dougger’s comments still ring true in that Waushara County has many beautiful park areas that are just dying for some visitors. I do plan to inquire with the Parks Department but was curious if anyone knew offhand if they repealled this ruling.

    Thanks

Perhaps suggest the Waushara parks boss open discussion with the Waupaca County Director of Parks and Rec. Altho Waup. Cty. does not have any official policy as far as I know, the Director is open and receptive to GeoCaching. Gram and I have discussed this with him several times, in fact, Gram sees him often as they work in the same building. There are several caches on county properties, and there have been no issues to date. I am pretty sure we’d be an initial point of contact in the Waupaca GC community if there was problems.

Sorry to hear Waushara is being shortsighted.

This was also Five Years ago that Waushara County said no to geocaching.

I have to believe that there are currently geocaches in Waushara County Parks.

If there are, then I would rank this post as long gone news and would only assume their policy never went into effect.

Personally, I’d just let this sleeping dog lie.

I have cached out Waushara (I think) and only know of two caches that were in County Maintained Parks (one is now archived and since it is the only one the owner had and has not yet reactivated it, I think it has been abandoned). All the others tend to be placed in cemeteries or DNR lands. If there were more in county parks, I would not be checking on this. In the Cities, every park seems to hold at least one cache while in this county the cache population is scarce. I hope to remedy this a little but to know the ruling completely would give me a better sense of security in the cache placements. I would like to know if anyone is aware of the status on this issue for Waushara county, ’cause I don’t really want to stir up a bees nest, open a new can of worms, kick the sleeping dog…… whatever. I just want to be able to place some caches for the geocaching community without having to pull them at a later date because they are not “legal”. The DNR requests notification of cache placements. I would think that the county may want notification too.
