If you like geocaching statistics, you may be interested in this. Even if not, read on – there’s something for the non-stats people too.

I’ve been working on a program for the last couple of months that analyzes your “My Finds” pocket query and shows you all sorts of statistics including your find rate over the years, streaks, average difficulty / terrain of your finds, milestones, FTFs, etc. It also includes a “goal caclulator” that shows what your find rate needs to be in order to reach a particular milestone by the end of the year.

If you’re not into statistics and this is a big yawn for you, you might be interested in the “Favorites” feature: you can select your favorite caches in each of 10 categories including all-time favorite, most difficult find, cleverest hide, etc. All your previous finds are shown in a list so you can peruse your old logs as you make your selection.

If you want to tell the world about your statistics and/or favorites, you can easily export to HTML and paste into your geocaching.com profile (see our profile for an example, make sure you scroll past the map to see the favorites section).

Version 1.0 is now officially ready. If people seem to like it I may put in some more features (e.g. a web-version that you wouldn’t need to download). If not, well I had fun doing it. Before I announce this on the gc.com forums, I’d appreciate it if a few of you could try it out and let me know how it went for you, even if it’s just to say that you didn’t run into any problems.

    Enjoy,

Wow. This looks very cool, especially the ability to create the favorites list. I haven’t taken it for a spin yet, but I plan to.

    Pretty neat!

I noticed one bug… It shows my first find to be 1/1/2000, and it appears to be calculating my find rate based off that date as well. Other than that, I like it!

This looks cool. I ran my finds through Fizzymagic’s parser once, and that was pretty cool, but this is much slicker. I’ll play with it later, but one thing I liked about Fizzymagic was the state by state count. Any plans for that here?

Basically, build it and they will come. Nice job.

I wasn’t aware of Fizzymagic. CacheStats already lists your states, so I assume you are asking to put in a count for the number of finds in each state? If so, yeah, that sounds pretty doable. Other suggestions are welcome.

Dave – not exactly sure what’s going on with the 1/1/2000 problem, but I’m guessing you have a cache that’s included in your .gpx file that doesn’t have a found or attended log associated with it. Not sure how this could be though. I sent you a private message using this forum with more info.

Soooo would this keep track of my stats rather than logging them onto GC.com or does it hook up with that? (technodummy here) With all the mudslinging and tallywackers over there arguing about stats, I would prefer to keep mine private and would not mind getting them of the GC.com web page altogether. 🙄 Thanks!

Mine shows 1/1/2000 as the first find as well.

LonesumDove, it uses your logs on GC.com to compute the statistics. 😥

I got 1/1/2000 as the first find also, but other than that it was very cool to play around with…keep up the good work!

Found the problem – webcam caches weren’t being processed correctly. Never got tested because we’ve never found one! (You’d think after 300 caches and over 2 years of caching we’d have done one by now. Of course the one time we tried, the website was down). Thanks to Cheesehead Dave who helped me pinpoint the problem. New version is with the fix is available on the website (http://www.logicweave.com/cachestats.html). Hopefully I have all the various kinds of found-it logs handled now.

Note, if you have already installed, you will first have to uninstall the current version using add/remove programs before it will let you install the new one. If you try the new version and you still get 1/1/2000 as your first cache please let me know. Thanks!

I started “playing” with this tool when I saw it in March. It looks great! It does all the things I had been doing manually with Excel spreadsheets.

I too share Dave’s issue with the starting date. I thought it might be worked out in the revised version. No Luck! ~tb

Thanks Doug. The update worked for me as well. Nicely done.

When did you say you’d have the upgrade that lists totals for Wisconsin counties? 🙄

          #1762529

Gonna have to play with the program on my days off. They don’t let me do much on the work computer 🙁 Sounds like a great little progran and a new toy to play with. 😀

I actually considered this, and spent maybe a grand total of 5 minutes looking for a public domain file containing coordinates/vectors/line segments or whatever for county borders. Not even sure if such a thing exists, but if someone knows of one, let me know and I’ll look into it.

Sounds like the fix worked for everyone. Thanks for trying it out and letting me know.
