I’ve heard a number of cachers in the NEW area have acquired a caching companion recently.
Sheila and I have been inseperatable for about 2.5 years now. Even though I do not always listen to her, I’m not sure I would have found my way to the different caches without her guidance.
And her sister Nora is also tagging along. I tend to pay more attention to her, expecially if I’m not dirving.
So, introduce your caching ‘companion’ here.
09/08/2006 at 5:19 pm #1765295Yes indeed, I have “Marie”, named in honor of the soon-to-be-missus. I told her that I named it Marie so she could tell me what to do even when she couldn’t be with me 😆 . When we’re caching together I’m not allowed to call it by name or talk to it, which is like tying my hands behind my back when I’m telling a story. You HAVE to talk to your GPS or the caches hide when they see you coming.

09/08/2006 at 10:37 pm #1765297Ok…I’m gonna have to play dumb..something I’m good at. What are we talking about as “companion??
09/09/2006 at 4:32 pm #1765298Are you people naming your GPS units? 😯
Maybe it’s a guy thing? ❓
[Edit: Woot! 500th post!
09/09/2006 at 5:15 pm #1765299Trudy named our ‘companion’ Barbie, reflecting on her intellectual capacity. Barbie frequently takes us into private drives, or suggests turns where no road exists. On the trails, we are accompanied by Bonnie and Clyde. No this isn’t a guy thing.. Trudy was very influential here. It may be contagious, caught it from Geoffnsara.

No, it is not a guy thing… isn’t naming and then talking to inanimate objects the first sign of insanity? 🙂

I went 3 years and 25000 miles with my nameless caching companion until Marc came up with a name for it while using it this weekend. I can kill “Sabrina” whenever I want (by turning off the power) and ignore her yapping at will so I have never found it necessary to yell or talk to her, and certainly not call her by name.

09/11/2006 at 9:14 pm #1765302I just acquired a companion. His name …yes HIS name is “Maverick” Problem.. I don’t think he’s gonna be any help. Hmmm sound familiar??!! LOL Have not found out how to download any WPTs to him, so I guess He’ll have to stop at gas stations and ask directs, since he can at least get us there.
Have a note out in GSAK forum to see if anyone knows for sure if I can get WPTS into his head or not. Darn it… and I even gave him a ton of memory space too. sheesh…. men 🙄 ROFLMAO

Uh, Bunny, maybe it has a given name, other than Maverick, that one of us could use to help you?

Very true Coastie….I guess it depends on whether or not it has sound. Mine actually gives audible directions, like the Garmin StreetPilots. It just so happens that I had the choice of a MALE voice. Also have numerous languages. Problem is….I’d fall in love with the French or Italian voice, but be lost as all get out!! LOL
