I know for some, finding old caches is a fun goal. We enjoy them ourselves. A few years back, BlackCat created a bookmark list of the oldest cache in each Wisconsin county. It’s not entirely accurate anymore, as some have been archived since then. We’ve tried to find these as we get around to different places. One thing I’ve noticed about the caches on this list…..an awful lot of them haven’t been found in many months, or even years. I think some, they’re just gone and people stop looking for them. Others, they aren’t in “cache rich” areas, which people tend to seek out when planning their travels. Others…maybe long walks or multis or whatever?

Take a look and if you’ve found some of them, or have thoughts, discuss!

Thanks for resharing. I was just glancing through the list and saw that Moscown We Have a Problem is on there. Recently, the CO wanted to put this up for adoption but because it’s a virtual, HQ does not allow that . . .

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

That’s too bad, cause that’s a really neat one. We were able to acquire three virtuals from Lil’ Otter when they still allowed that. We weren’t about to try and acquire anymore with that new promotion. They can be, ahem, a problem at times. Don’t need any more problems in our life.

He’s going to hold onto it for awhile but it may end up getting archived 🙁

I looked at the list and was pleasantly surprised to see I had found a few of the caches.  I went back and read my logs so I could remember more about the cache.  If I could plan such a trip, I think I would choose a few contiguous counties and make a route to include the oldest in each.  One struggle in keeping older caches around could be that if the owner loses interest or has health issues and doesn’t adopt out the cache, it settles into finders minimally maintaining it with new log sheets.  Eventually, it disappears and then gets archived.

Am glad I read this post yesterday…discovered I was only a short distance away from Vilas County’s oldest…Big Arbs Ruins GCD8E. I made the find today before heading home from our week at Star Lake. TFTC 🙂

That was a neat one, wasn’t it? Only when we did it, a fishing person dumped piles of fish guts right on top of it and had left a nasty note about losers looking for junk. In a way, I can’t argue with that assessment, but like Thumper’s mother said…”If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nuthin’ at all”

Wow. I live 11 miles from the oldest non-virtual and haven’t found it yet. We stopped once in the parking lot but had other plans. Guess I will have to stop there again sometime soon!

Dang.  I had posted a reply a few days ago about oldies, then edited it right away because of a misspelled word, and when I clicked “submit” it disappeared, including my original post.  I was hoping it would reappear if I refreshed the page, but I see it’s missing still.  I don’t even recall what I had said, but I’m sure it must have been brilliant. 🙂
