Has anyone else had any issues have to constantly recalibrate the compass? It seems that I have to do it all the time while out in the field.

With my Legend, north was north and south was south and my heading was in the direction I was going. It seems that I’ll be heading down a trail and my heading will change and then nothing. I have to recalibrate to get my heading. Just wondering if anyone else is having like problems or if I have it set up wrong or something.

I’ve been using a Garmin with the built-in Magnetic compass now for almost 2 years. I find that I need to re-calibrate the compass every time I change batteries.

But, that aside, I turn the compass “off” when I am heading to the cache (during the hike). Once I get within 100 ft. or so, then I turn the Magnetic compass back on. That way I don’t have to hold the unit level for the whole hike to keep the compass working.

The magnetic compass can be turned on and off by pressing and holding the “Page” button on the 60CSx.

Mine has had some “fussy” weeks where it has needed to be recalibrated several times. But that has been the exception.

If you go into “settings” then “heading” on the 60CSx you can also change at what speed it shifts over to the electronic compass. I think it is originally set at anything less than 10mph or so? I switched mine to 2 mph so mine only switches to electronic compass if I stop walking. That seems to work better for geocaching.

I didn’t know about the page button but I tried it and it works. Thanks.
