Ah-course, if you’re looking for the wow factor with camping noobs or kids, make some omelets in Ziploc bags, or cook some eggs & bacon in a paper bag over the coals.
Are willing to share? I’ve never heard of either of these.
Very simple CJ. Big pot of boiling water and zip loc bags. I recomend freeze bags. Cut up what ever you want in your omlete, add eggs, and drop into boilng water, and let boil tell eggs set..
Paper bags are kinda tricky. Though everything in a PAPER bag, use a stick to hang bag over coals, just dont get the bag to close to the coals.
Both work pretty kewl.My recollection, and it’s been a while since we did this since it was a bit more show than substance, was two strips of bacon on the bottom, topped by hash brown patty, crack egg over top and add stuff. Cook over COALS–any flame and you have instant omelet flambe.

Three foot length of closet rod.
Strech a biscuit from a can of biscuits over the top of the rod to make a cup.
Toast till brown (will slide off easily when done–if it sticks it’s not done)
Fill with pudding or pie filling. Top with whipped cream if desired. On the Left Side of the Road...08/04/2011 at 3:53 pm #1949490@kbraband wrote:
I cracked 10 eggs before leaving home and put them in a Nalgene widemouth water bottle. Much easier than trying to use eggs in the shell on a kayaking trip. 🙂
Can you get individual eggs out using this method?
Yes, a camping egg holder takes up a lot of room in the cooler.

If you need to, yes. All but one of my yokes remained intact. But I scrambled them all before using anyway.

Make frozen Egg Cubes!! 😛 Seriously!!! Crack an egg in to an ice cube try, I’d scramble them first, but I think you can whole if you want. And you can use them anytime. Even at home. Makin something at home and call for 2 eggs, take 2 cubes out and let them thaw. I learned this from an old customer of mine back when I worked in a grocery store. She’d buy a whole case (15 doz) when eggs were real cheap and freeze them.
Tips For Storing And Using Leftover Egg Yolks
Store Individually
Egg yolks need to be stabilized before freezing or the thawed product will be pasty and hard to mix. For best results store the yolks pre-measured according to future use. If the yolks will be used for sweet or dessert recipes, add 1 tablespoon of sugar or honey per pint of yolks. If the yolks will be used for savory recipes add 1 teaspoon of salt per pint of yolks. The stabilized yolks may be dropped, one egg yolk in each section of a ice cube tray and frozen. Remove the egg yolk cubes and store in a freezer style zip-lock bag.Eggs whole and in the shell cannot be frozen. Eggs can and are successfully frozen
all the time but they must be mixed. The white of the egg and yolk must be blended for proper freezing of whole eggs (yolk & white mixed).Take a dozen eggs and mix them up as if for scrambling and add a 1/2 tsp of salt. Pour mix into ice cube trays and freeze for a day.
Take frozen egg cubes and place in freezer bag.
Use two cubes (thawed) per whole egg needed. While this will not provide you with “sunny side up” style eggs they are excellent as scrambled/ omelets or in recipes calling for whole egg.
Separated Yolks will freeze only when mixed and salt added, consistency is changed by freezing but not unacceptably so when using for baking etc.
Egg whites freeze well without stirring or salt.

Roast marshmallows. Twist apart a Golden Oreo with chocolate filling, place marshmallow between, put cookie back together and enjoy!
Far less messier, far less work, far less packing of supplies, and ever so yummier! If you decide not to make smores, you still have Oreo cookies to eat!
08/22/2011 at 12:23 pm #1949494Here is my absolute favorite childhood camping recipe. It’s great because it’s all cooked in one pot and then you use chips to eat it, very little clean up involved. I can’t remember the name of the recipe though:
Brown 1 lb. ground beef in dutch oven
2 cans refried beans
1 small can tomato paste
1 can corn (I prefer frozen personally)
1 can olives, sliced
cheddar cheeseMix all the ingrediants into the dutch oven and heat together over the fire or outdoor cook stove. Eat with tortilla chips. You can put a dollup of sour cream on top. Yum!
