My family and I are taking a vacation in June and are planning on camping a few days up in Door county, but we alos are planning on camping somewhere between there and Kenosha for at least 3 days before going to the Door.
The thing is that we have no idea where. We had originally planned to go out west to camp in South Dakota and Wyoming, but time is getting short and now we’re planning on staying in state for this one.
So, we are looking for sugestions. We’ll be going mid-June and are looking for Q U I E T campgrounds with showers and as Debbie would put it “no hole-in-the-ground toilets”. Guess she like the flushing sound. 😀 Places far away from city lights would be the best, as we are skywatchers.
So, how about it. Where are your favorite places to camp???

05/14/2007 at 2:58 pm #1874357Interstate Park. Not exactly the most quiet, but great scenery, some good caches and a lot of good hiking.
05/14/2007 at 7:21 pm #1874358Though not the most private, the ridge campsites at Wyalusing are probably the most scenic in Wisconsin. I highly recommend it to all who have not been there.
05/14/2007 at 7:33 pm #1874359whats all so good, i loved it when i camped there for a weekend, is Rib Mountain, its pretty view, ok, not very private, but so worth going and the Three Bad Ribs is right there. very much worth doing! its a challenge but it takes you all over the park, and its wonderful!

Very secure area great swimming hiking everything you asked for. And reasonable. Plus there are many, many great caches around West Bend.
Here is another

If you pick either of these let me know and we will get together. I know a great place in Dundee for pizza. Bensons in Dundee in the middle of the northern Kettle Marine has a whole bunch of varied caches.

Copper Falls State Park & Pattison State Park, which I have been to.
Another one that I liked to try that has showers Governor Knowles State Forest. Lots of cache around Knowles & Pattison but not as many around Copper Falls area. Here is a cool linkhttp://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/parks/specific/pickapark.html
Shows ya a list of everything.05/15/2007 at 3:30 am #1874362Kohler-Andrae State Park and Point Beach State Forest are both really neat and on the way to Door County. I assume you were looking for campgrounds on the way? If you are looking for campgrounds not necessarily on the way then here area a couple of neat ones too.
Blue Mound State Park There is some neat lookout towers where you can look out over the landscape from the Seventh highest spot in WI.
Mirror Lake State Park The Lake here is really beautiful and does look like a mirror most of the time. Plus it is near the Dells if you want some other tings to do. -
