Bec,
I’ve camped hundreds of weekends in various settings – scout camps, state parks, national forests, private campgrounds, county parks, even a city park on the Elroy Sparta bike trail – and I have left my tent with belongings in it for some portion of every weekend.
I have *NEVER* had anything disturbed much less stolen. I’m sure there will be a first time but my experience is that everyone leaves other peoples’ stuff alone while camping.
I hope you have the same luck!

07/31/2004 at 5:00 am #1758200I’m going to talk with a fellow from Sky High sometime in the next couple days in regards to the primitive group site they have. I’ve referred him to the web site to get a feel for our wonderful group. So we’ll see!

08/03/2004 at 4:48 pm #1758201Eric from Sky High told me that he has a number of sites available for a group that are near electricity and water (and restrooms) and would love to have us there. So if anyone is interested, let me know in the next few days and I will reserve some sites (adjacent ones). I believe he told me that these sites are $15 per person, and an extra $2 per person if you want water at your site as well.
Or, if someone has any other ideas, I’m game!

08/03/2004 at 8:35 pm #1758202$15 per person or $15 per adult?

08/04/2004 at 3:24 am #1758204I guess it’ll be both Friday & Saturday nights. The campground requires 2 nights for a weekend. You could definitely just try to get a spot for one night by just showing up, but I don’t know if they could guarantee that geocachers would then be near one another. But maybe that’s not a big deal. There has been a mention of doing a breakfast type thing….
And yep, it’s $15 per adult, per night.
But if anyone is interested, please let me know (who and how many, if you need electricity and/or a water hook up — I think that is extra?)
08/04/2004 at 1:40 pm #1758205I don’t get why their rates page on their website says $13/adult though… Is the $15 figure with electricity? The two of us won’t be needing water or electric- just a place to toss up a tent.
I’m not 100% sure on what we’re doing yet in terms of one or two nights and whatever else. I’ll let you know in the next few days.
08/05/2004 at 12:17 am #1758206I’d love to hunt some more of the caches in that area. The Dells tends to be too crowded this time of the year, so this may be an ideal location to set up geocaching base camp. Put me down for the spot under the trees, as far away from the screaming children (and parents) as possible.

08/05/2004 at 1:44 am #1758207Thanks Russ — I’ll let the campground know your preferences!
For those who know they are coming and want to be assured of a spot, I will pre-pay for all of you, and you can just owe me. I suppose I should reserve the spots soon-ish, so maybe by week’s end?
And I think it is just $13 for tent campers…but don’t quote me yet. I will confirm when I make the reservations.

08/05/2004 at 2:44 am #1758208We *may* end up not coming at all- I was going to meet my mom at our cabin on the weekend prior to the picnic, but my cousin and uncle and some of their friends are going to be there working on it that weekend so we have to figure out another weekend that will work. My mom suggested the picnic weekend, I told her what’s going on that weekend but if it’s the only time she can make it, I’m going to have to choose seeing her over the picnic.
I’ll post when the plans are figured out, but it may be safest to go ahead and not incluse us in the reservations if I don’t know by then. If that’s the case, I’ll just call down there and see what they have available and mention I’m with the group if they can get us in a nearby site. The campground can’t be all that big I don’t think.
08/18/2004 at 12:44 am #1758209Just a note and not related in any way to my last post in the hotly debated topic about pre-releasing waypoints…
We are all camped out from our vacation last week and will no tbe camping this weekend. A huge thank you to those of you who went out of your way to organize a group for camping. I really wish we could go but I think my family will crucify me if a don’t give them a weekend off.
That said I’m really hoping I’ll be able to make it anyway, but that’s still questionable right now too.
If the campers would still like to make use of the canopy, please let me know, as my offer still stands and I will be willing to work something out. (Might even be an excuse for me to head down there without the family )
