It’s probably time to start talking about this stuff. I will try and think of an activity or two we can do. Anyone else have any ideas?
Also, I was looking at the Mirror Lake park page and look at this beautiful amphitheater they have! We should use it in some way. Maybe see if a park ranger will do some sort of presentation?

03/11/2014 at 4:03 am #1975346Night Caches!
At an event I hosted (not geocaching), I had, for lack of a better name, a reverse photo scavenger hunt. I started with a picture of a prominent landmark in the park we were in. At the land mark was a small container with another picture of another landmark, etc. Some of the pictures included hints (arrows) pointing to where the container was hidden… Like a multi without any coords.
Even in a small city park, it was a lot of fun. In a larger state park, I think it would be a blast, and keep people occupied and exploring the park for quite some time.I know that the guided tour was a bit of a bust last year, but I think that was because it wasn’t communicated to the attendees well enough. From what I’ve seen, every state park in Wisconsin has enough history and/or geography to easily keeps anyone interested in these things occupied for a while. I still contend that this is something that should be pursued at every campout event.

03/11/2014 at 5:29 pm #1975347TBC .. could the spots that are usually toured be incorporated into cache or photo spots?
03/11/2014 at 5:52 pm #1975348I’m not sure I understand the question ‘Nae.

Could any of those spots be cache locations?
03/11/2014 at 7:56 pm #1975350When should we toss out an announcement to the rest of the WGAers about the Night Caches at the campout?
I’d like to do one and I know it’ll take me forever to get one thought out.

@-cheeto- wrote:I wonder if it would not be a good idea to make up a tag board schedule of events, post one at the entrance to the park in the ranger station, one at the campsite, and one at the shelter? We could also have smaller printed versions available at all 3 spots?
Zuma – What an awesome simple improvement idea!
I highly recommend that future camp-out committee’s utilize this idea. I would also recommend that a person be stationed at the entrance in addition to the sign to welcome folks as they enter and answer any questions they may have. I would have volunteered to do this had we done it this time and I am sure others would in the future and the ranger probably would have endorsed the idea as well.
Sounds like a great way to make sure everyone stays connected to the activities we plan.

03/13/2014 at 2:46 am #1975355Are we going to do a fishing tournament? It looks like a lot of people use kayaks on the lake. Maybe a group kayak or canoe outting?

03/13/2014 at 2:49 am #1975356I’ll volunteer to do some kid’s activities, does anyone want to help me? Otherwise I can inform my daughter that is her job. 😆

03/13/2014 at 3:09 am #1975357becca .. we had a number of kids, both girls and boys, attend the geo/craft event at the scrapbook store last Saturday.
A popular inexpensive craft that Nancy taught at her station involved using scrapbook paper with small camping design .. glossy accents .. and the glass things you can buy at the $1 store. I am posting a photo of the project .. just an idea .. we were encouraging kids to use them for trade swag.
We could even have the kids draw something with waterproof markers or pens on paper to make it a signature item ..
Glossy Accents
Glass things from $1 store
scissors
scrapbook papersNeat idea? I can check with the store owner to see if she has anymore of that same paper if we want to do this as a kids activity.
03/13/2014 at 3:51 am #1975358Renee, I’ve seen those before. I could even print up some geocaching-related symbols/icons to put behind the glass. I’ve added it to my list. In case anyone’s interested, I can attach my plans. This is a rough draft, I may not do all of them. In fact, I probably won’t do all.
