For those of you who haven’t heard this information yet through unofficial channels…
The 2008 WGA Geo-Campout will be held May 16-18 at Governor Dodge State Park near Dodgeville (about 40 miles west of Madison). We are pleased to be returning to this great state park where the first WGA campout was held in 2002.
03/06/2008 at 1:55 am #1885623Any Trudy camping? Preferably with a swimming pool and a hot tub? (smiles).
03/06/2008 at 4:19 am #1885624I recommend the Don Q Inn – virtually across the street from the park. It’s just one of those places everyone should experience at least once. Although its probably not the cheapest.

The Don-Q Inn is a great place! I have stayed there several times. It is quite interesting. My personal favorite is the cave room. I do know that there is a Super 8 nearby as well.
03/06/2008 at 5:53 pm #1885626ooh, pick this one:
shackles on the bed, and chair
no, strike that.. the cheese vat tub sounds even better…
A suspended queen-sized swinging bed hangs from the rafters by chains, 300 gallon copper cheese vat tub,
that place sounds like it’s worth the price of admission! π
03/06/2008 at 6:15 pm #1885627The prices don’t seem bad at all at DonQ. We’ve paid more for Bed&Breakfasts by a long shot.
I think we’ll be camping though. Seems a waste of money to get one of those suites when we’ll have our son with. π
See you all there.

Yeah, probably. Though my kids would be thrilled to have their own private whirlpool in the room!
I stayed in the Jungle Safari room once. Ah, memories….
03/07/2008 at 4:31 am #1885629I will be staying in the small cozy, intimant tent, along with the dog. Somebody has to keep me warm at night!

Reminds me of one of my favorite rock/pop groups from the 70s — Three Dog Night. Imagine how cold a night that must be.
I remember how cold it was at the first WGA campout at Gov. Dodge. Some of us in tents had catalytic heaters, which were a relatively new item back then. Once others at the group camp saw them, several of them made a run to the nearby Farm & Fleet store in Dodgeville to pick one up.
03/07/2008 at 5:07 pm #1885631I remember sleeping next to someone who had a propane Buddy heater.
.
It had a piezo electric ignitor, like many gas grill have. All night it kept flaming out, and you could hear them clicking away on the ignitor.. CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-TANK-TANK-TANK-TANK-TANK. Sounded like someone banging on empty coffee can with a metal spoon. Ah…Memories π
Governor Dodge became my favorite park after the 1st WGA Campout. This place is the crown jewel of the State Park System in my opinion!

I’m pretty sure that our members bought all the portable heating devices in the greater Dodgeville area (I know, I looked myself and couldn’t find any!). I remember that even with these fancy heaters, many people did not tough out a second night of below freezing temps. I also remember someone’s stupid weather radio going off with “freeze alerts” several times one night.
But there’s no need to worry about cold nights this year mates… with global warming kicking in (six additional years worth of greenhouse gases are now in the atmosphere), I predict we will need to break out the portable air conditioning and swamp cooler units this year. π

That explains why this winter has been so “mild”! lol π

Consider…
Global warming, now known as climate change, will unltimately cause the worst of winters. An ice age in fact.
Suddenly no one is laughing…

I’ve been camping at Governor Dodge for years(since I was a kid), it’s also one of my favorite parks. Even after staying there hundreds of times I still haven’t explored every trail.
03/08/2008 at 2:39 am #1885636Can’t wait! The Pack and I will be staying warm in our new camper trailer. Maybe can talk lagrac into helping keep us warm π
