I (Birdin’) served just one term as a member of the WGA Board. Life brought me some unexpected surprises near the end of my term and I wasn’t able to “go the distance” at that point, so chose not to return.
Those of you who are already serving as a member of the Board have proven you can go the distance and know what’s involved. This question is more for those who are seeking a term for the first time. Serving on the Board requires travel to events, at least three of them now…Spring Campout, Fall Picnic and the Chili Event. There is also the pancake breakfast at the Cache Bash and our booth there, plus various satellite events (sponsored CITOs and the like) throughout the year. With each of these events, there is work to be divvied up and done. There are other issues that require the effort of some of the Board. Sometimes as one working these events, you just have to set aside your own “playtime” and be present to represent the WGA. Basically, you have to set aside your own caching persona for the good of the organization.
Will you have the time, energy and commitment to accomplish all of these things?

Commitment? Check. Energy? Check. Time? Check.
When I got the nomination and then it was seconded it was time to have a family meeting. I will not do half-a-job. If I cannot perform by the bylaws there is no reason for me to even accept the nomination. Energy and Commitment were not the issue. I have a couple good ideas I am fleshing out and I like to volunteer. Time was. I communicated with a couple current board members and some members getting all my ducks in a row before I would accept. The answer is yes. With my family behind me and knowing what it will take I will have the time, energy, and commitment.

Like it says in some of my other answers, I was a Church Youth leader, Cub Scout Leader. I didn’t mention in other posts that I am also on the fundraiser committee with the Fire Dept. which is a huge huge undertaking. Lots of planning and leg work. I’m committed to what ever I sink my heels into. The only thing that gets in the way is work but if you don’t work you don’t eat.
Will I have time and energy and be committed? Definitely! Sit back and watch the dust fly!
