I invite the candidates to reply to the following question below.

We all posess unique talents, abilities, skills, attitudes, and thought processes. What are your unique attributes that distinguish you from the other candidates and current members of the board?

The comments and opinions above are those solely of Team GeoPink (arcangl7) and are not those of the WGA, the WGA board, or its other fine members.

Quite the thought-provoking question. Here’s some thoughts off the top of my head.

I like to think that my ability to stay neutral and see all sides of an issue is pretty handy (maybe not so unique though). I respect all opinions, and try to keep mine to myself, unless required or requested.

I am an extremely detailed planner. With me you can be assured that all bases will be covered!

Although fairly quiet in most group settings, I am very comfortable in front of groups and have actual college training in presenting. For work I have been required to make presentations to groups. My job also requires me to go into businesses without a whole lot of preparation or information. Therefore I’m very comfortable in talking to people, and can take charge in sometimes uncomfortable situations.

I have served as head of a few committees in my day (Team Captain for Relay for Life for the last several years, and on the Planning Committee for Relay Fort Atkinson for the past 2). I can be very creative when it comes to fundraising (silent auctions are my specialty). My team felt that I was very inspiring to them. In the last few years I was able to get our team donations for Relay to nearly $6,000!)

I’m probably one of the most flexible people you’ll meeet (although I’m getting older & might have to warm up first). Actually , I mean fexible in terms of rolling with the punches. Again, this is a result of 12 years of crazy work schedules, working in a vocational/rehab service field. I can stick to my guns if required, but when change is needed, I will embrace it fully.

I am willing to be available to people at all times. Work and my dogs are the only real obstacels to my availability. If you need me, I will try my hardest be there for you!

That’s about all I can come up with at the moment. My sense of humor is certainly unique! And I think I’m the only candidate that has an almost fully metal left knee….

Technical Skills – Having an engineering and computer background helps me do things like: assist geocachers with formatting on their cache pages, modify the COTM/COTY graphics, create PDA files for the WGA events, create a system whereby the info for the temp caches at the WGA events is only entered once, and the PDA files, GPX files, hint page and cache booklet are automatically generated (in progress).

Organizational Skills – I must admit that I am not completely organized in all aspects of my life, only where it really counts. My checkbook (as well as the WGA’s) is always kept up to date and balanced. Every scrap of paper dealing with the WGA treasury is kept organized by date and type, along with an electronic file containing much more detail of all transactions.

Empathy – Prior to becoming a reviewer for geocaching.com, I had the unpleasant experience of having a geocache archived because it didn’t fit the guidelines. I remember what it felt like to be on the receiving end of that “Your Cache Has Been Archived” e-mail. I try very hard to work with the geocache submitter to bring their cache into compliance with the guidelines, or at a minimum try to break the bad news as softly as possible.

    Jeff,

I won’t say that I have any skills or abilities that distinguish myself from the other candidates or current board members.. I think we all have great things to offer so, I will just list what I believe to be some items that would let you know a bit more about “me”…

I’m a very “no-nonsense” kind of guy… I won’t waste time dealing with what I like to call “fluff”. That stuff tends to work itself out in time anyhow…

I can be very organized.. In fact, I really enjoy the challenge of having a project run as smoothly as possible… Co-workers quote me as saying “Every thing has a place, and every place has a thing”… How nice of them to notice huh?

Determined. Kind of like a crazed dog, I’ll see a project through… Not too easily deterred here!

Communicator. What can I say? Knowledge IS power.. I’m famous for the “FYI” type of emails… I wan’t to be sure parties involved are aware of the “whole skippy” at all times….

Again, thanks for asking… Hope this helps a bit.

It is impossible to compare myself with all the candidates running in this election, as there are some that I have not had the pleasure of getting to know yet. (I do feel that those running do present good choices for the Board). I feel the Board should be a mix of new and experienced, young and old, 1-2/day cachers and 20/day cachers.
I’ll be the first to admit that I can use this computer, but am not proficient with most programs or programming. I feel my abilities lie in experience and the ability to look at geocaching realistically and apply my experience to the problems that we face.
In addition to doing all types of maintenance at a large apartment complex, I am a Supervisor on our local Town Board, and a Commissioner on two Ambulance commissions and a Sanitary District commission. My wife and I are mid-fifties hikers and campers in our spare time, and look forward to the new trails and parks, mysteries and adventures that await at our next geocache hunt.

What distinguishes me from the other candidates? My DNA!

What can I offer the board and the members of the WGA?

I have experience serving on several different Boards in many different capacitites – as a Board member, as President and as the Chairperson of a seven state Region. I know the demands on time, resources, and family that serving on a Board can make and I am willing and able to accept them.

I can also list some of the same attributes as many of the other candidates: I am detail oriented, well organized, and dedicated to completing the task at hand. I am also a perfectionist and believe in doing things 110%.

I will tell you, that what I don’t know I seek to learn. What I don’t understand I ask questions to find out. I am unwavering in my beliefs, I don’t beleive in compromising my morals and trust is the one thing I value above all else.
