With the WGA turning 15 this year, what kind of things should the WGA do to celebrate this anniversary?
My posts should in no way be considered as the views or opinions of the WGA or its Board of Directors. All posts made under my name are my personal opinions only.
01/13/2017 at 7:11 am #2053164I would think an event for sure, or at very least, at every WGA event have something signifying this achievement. Maybe shirts or other merchandise with a logo incorporating that it’s been 15 years since the WGA’s inception. Maybe 15 hidden tokens placed in random WGA state park caches, which can be redeemed for merchandise. So much that can be done!

Or at both of those events, you could have the entire audience stand, and then ask everyone who has been a member of the WGA at least five years to remain standing. Then ask everyone who has been a member of the WGA for ten years to remain standing. Then, eleven years, then twelve, and so on.
You can also put out individual traditional “legacy” caches for the longest standing active WGA members.
(i.e., WGA Turns 15: Trekkin’ and Birdin’)
01/13/2017 at 9:44 am #2053170I think an event outside of the usual ones held by the WGA would have more meaning. Perhaps Pike Lake to honor the first event. Maybe trivia contests on the website throughout the year with prizes awarded in a raffle for people with the right answers. Merchandise with a special 15th anniversary theme seems appropriate.

This would be a great place to start a new forum topic under The Wisconsin Geocaching Association> Suggestion Box.01/13/2017 at 10:06 pm #2053197I think a 15th “birthday” bash would be appropriate. I envision an event where all attendees bring a birthday gift that would be used as raffle prizes at the end of the event. Special geocaching related party games like pin the coordinate on the map, bobbing for cache containers, etc. The sale of a 15th year coin, path tag, or clothing. As well as recognition to the former Board Members. And of course….BIRTHDAY CAKE AND ICE CREAM!!

01/14/2017 at 12:02 pm #205320115 years as an organization definitely needs to be marked with some special stuff. Without lending too many “spoilers”, I am already working on a new special apparel design to commemorate. And yes, I am trying to make it something that can be used on zipper hoodies as well. As our merchandise has been the lifeblood funding for the organization, we have been responsible with our ordering to take advantage of quantity discounts especially when our designs have involved the number of color screens they have. We have also tried to find the balance of having all the variety without also carrying too much overstock.
For 15 years, we do need to think beyond the typical for potential events as well. I have privately shared some ideas I have with other current BOD members. There are areas of Wisconsin that perhaps it is time to focus and share is about the most “spoiler” I want to comment on them.
01/15/2017 at 9:01 pm #205323915 years wow what a great feat. There are many things that we could do or get. We could get a special pathtag/coins made. We can roll back the clock with merchandise for example reproduce the shirts like they were 15 years. Maybe 15 special new caches with special items at the end of them. How about a power point show showing the progression of the WGA over the years. Has any member been part of the WGA all 15 years? How about a time capsule to be opened up in 15 years? The possibilities are endless.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
01/17/2017 at 7:30 pm #2053267I am going to assume that the current board has already set things in motion for the 15 years. Geocoins are always great swag as well.
