Every year we have the ā€œGiver or a Takerā€ discussion question and I thought I would put a different spin on it again.

Are you a Hider or a Finder?

I have found about 8600 caches and have hidden 182 so I am both a hider and a finder.Ā  Unfortunately, Walkinadventure has a little bit of trouble finding my caches!!!Ā  (Sorry Chris, I had to!!)

This question was posed 2 years ago and this was my response then:

“Good question. We have limited ourselves to a few hides that are close to home and can be easily maintained. We have taken a lot of time and pride in the caches we have created and hidden.Ā Given the choice though,Ā I would have to say that I am more of a finder. I seek out certain areas that take us to different places around the state. The satellite map is reviewed, the parking areas are researched, the cache pages are read (mostly), and the time to depart and return is established. I have a habit of overplanning (whether that trait is good or bad). I like to be prepared in any situation by doing the research and collecting the data that is needed to have a successful venture no matter if it’s geocaching or a trip to the grocery store. And there is almost always a Plan B if Plan A does not work.”

It’s still the same today, however, to condense that, I still need to find the answers. Whether it’s through research or asking someone for help, I need to be led to the answer but not necessarily given the answer. That question was never about a cache and I have learned to appreciate that now.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

As of today I have found 6214 caches and hidden 76, 70 of which are still active. I also have DNF’ed more of raslas caches than I care to admit, so you’re not alone in that, WalkingAdventure.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

Truly I enjoy both.Ā  Who doesn’t enjoy the hunt of a geocache?Ā  Combining satellite technology, cruising around our great outdoors, what’s not to love.Ā  So what’s to love about hiding a cache?Ā  It’s a real pleasure when you read someone’s well written log.Ā  A long time ago, after complaining about too many geocaches not being maintained, I realized that if there weren’t people putting caches out, there wouldn’t be any geocaches for me to find.

Over the years, I have placed some caches, hosted some events, helped others host events, and enjoyed many events.Ā  I’ve hidden, a puzzle cache, we have a simple gadget cache in out front yard, placed some easy caches and some tougher to get to caches.

Sitting at 343 found and 17 owned caches. A little of each. Besides finding quality caches, I enjoy hiding quality caches. So most are a bit more than a bison tube hidden along side the road for a quick grab and go.

Until recently, I have been more of a finder. However, I am trying my own on hiding. I am only up to 8 hides but I have started on placing a new series. I have gotten good feedback so far on it. Next step is expanding it.

For a while I was certainly only a finder but once I got more of an idea for the game I quickly started to enjoy the hiding part of it as well. I only have three hides to my name but I have helped superman with several of his hides. So I guess I sit on the fence of being both but if I had to pick one I think it would be a finder.

I am more a finder as i like traveling as much as i can to see new places. I also enjoy tge friendly competitive games like the Hu nger games caches as well as ftf runs. I have hidden a few but i feel i would rather search.
