Sometimes it can be difficult to grab the pom-poms and lead the Rah, rah, rah! cheer, especially when others seem disconnected.
Share with us an example of a time when your enthusiasm motivated others and how this led to a positive outcome.
Following the signals from space.
01/15/2018 at 4:25 pm #2057385Being in the profession I am in, I have a lot of challenging deadlines to meet. It starts out with an outrageous request, under the breath mumbling about what it’s going to take to accomplish the task, and then bringing this challenge to my production team to collectively figure out a way to fulfill the customer’s need at the end of the day. We go back and forth trying to find a solution that works for all parties. Of course I then get an outrageous request from my production team telling me if you get this by this day, sure we can slip in the project but all of these other criteria need to be met first.
Keeping in mind the customer first, I calmly and confidently collaborate with the other departments involved and put together my timeline and reassure everyone that I will get what I need from my customer in the process to make certain it goes smoothly. I encourage the other departments, without being pushy, and let them know that they are the best person to be on this particular project because I have faith in their abilities. I also let them know I will do whatever it takes to help them accomplish their part in the project. (Buying treats also helps by the way.) Next thing you know, we have an award-winning package and everyone who had their fingers in the project wants one for their portfolio.
It’s all about how you lead the cheer, not what cheer you do.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

I encourage them, show them easier ways of doing the task and continue to work with them. Yes, some do quit before giving it a chance but the majority of them thank me for working with them and give it a chance.
01/15/2018 at 9:44 pm #2057409I’m not the cheerleader type. I tend to motivate others with quiet confidence and encouragement. I appeal more to the intellect than the emotion.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
01/17/2018 at 11:50 am #2057456Now that I have started doing photography on the side for certain things, I have discovered that people have some crazy expectations of next day delivery. I have been able to deliver on a few days but I usually have to sit them down and explain the process and say this is the soonest I can have them done. I have discovered it helps emmensly to sit them down and show them why it takes as long is it does. Usually that solves the issue and allow me more time. Others of course still want it sooner but at least they understand.
01/18/2018 at 9:00 pm #2057487I like to consider myself to be a very optimistic person. Believe it or not, this has almost got me punched on a few occasions. When I was in basic training for the Army, people would always scowl at my words of encouragement and positive attitude but I just persisted and I actually ended up having a few people thank me near the end and tell me that it had helped, they were just too grouchy to admit it at the time. My Sergeants also recognized that attitude and put me in a leadership role where my job was to keep people motivated which is very difficult to do in a military training situation. I held that position for the rest of the duration of basic training and loved the opportunity to serve in that capacity.
