There are 9 people on the WGA Board of Directors. That can sometimes mean 9 different opinions and ideas. Some of those ideas may compliment your own, some may be completely contradictory to yours. How will you handle differences of opinions that may arise during your time? What are your experiences working closely with others to accomplish tasks?
01/28/2024 at 6:55 pm #2072454I have served on several boards, including the WGA. I offer opinions on topics and love to hear the discussion. I do not take sides, all opinions are valuable. I can often see a compromise when there are differences. We are all there to improve the game. We all want the same thing. I listen to all opinions on a topic before making a decision.
01/28/2024 at 8:08 pm #2072462I know I bring up the scouting experience I was apart of for about 16 years a lot. It started with a Cub Scout den of 18 boys and all their parents, and in the Boy Scout Troop, we had 33 scouts at one point. While not all parents participated, there were still many ideas and differences of opinions a plenty. The goal was always to provide the best experience for the boys and I don’t see any difference in geocaching. I feel like I’m very willing to listen to ideas and provide my own, but feel like the goal is to improve the game and not just make sure my ideas are the only ones that are heard.
I also plan to discuss ideas with others to get their opinions on what they would like to see or if they have any ideas that would make the game better.
01/29/2024 at 8:00 pm #2072473Although there are nine people on the board of directors and potentially nine different opinions, we are all working towards the same goal. I personally really like when being in a small group that there are differing opinions because that opens one’s mind to possibilities that one may not considered prior to discussion. Having been in a rhetoric class long ago, I really enjoy talking to people with differing opinions and opening my mind to other solutions.
I have had a lot of experience working with others to accomplish tasks. One of my experiences has been being on multidisciplinary teams in the hospital and having to care for critically ill patients.
02/02/2024 at 11:02 pm #2072486At work and on committees that I’ve been a part of, I’ve found that if I listen to the people who seem the most contradictory to me, we often are working for the same goals and just need to find a common ground. Sometimes it is as simple as a misunderstanding that can be cleared up by listening and then stating that perhaps I was unclear, and re-phrasing my ideas. Other times, their ideas are an approach that I hadn’t considered.
Several years ago, I was on my local Relay For Life committee (American Cancer Society fundraiser). The theme we were considering was birthday related, and I thought that it was kind of silly and hard to decorate around. But, once we started working on it, things just fell into place…a bakery offered to supply a cake, the high school pep band played “Happy Birthday” and balloons everywhere were highly appropriate! Despite my initial concerns, it worked out beautifully. Going along with the group consensus ended up being a great experience and a wonderful event.

Views expressed here are my own and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA Board of Directors.
02/07/2024 at 5:09 pm #2072498I have worked with others in Scouting and at work. In the end we are all trying to accomplish the same thing in the end. It is part of life dealing with different opinions.
