In 2013, nearly 10 years ago, the WGA placed a cache in each state park. Do you support refreshing these caches, by archiving the present caches, and placing new WGA caches in each state park, working with the DNR to do that in 2024?

I love that there is a state park cache series placed by the WGA in each state park. I feel it brings another level of activity to state parks for people to enjoy. I would need more information on why the state park caches would be archived and replaced, vs keeping up with current caches. Is it because containers are often broken or missing due to high activity in state parks? Is it because long time cachers have “cached out” all the state parks and want new caches to find? Is it a way to keep the state park caches moving around the parks so as to preserve the surrounding habitat from over-trampling? I would be open to listening to more about the reasoning behind it, although, as long as the state park series remains a thing, I guess I’m all for that.

I can see both sides to refreshing these caches. On the plus side, it would be an incentive to revisit our state parks. On the other side, I’m certain many are working on collecting them all and would be upset with the need to restart.

Why not keep them well maintained and expand the series by adding more in each park? I can see it both ways though. A new series sounds exciting and gives people something to look forward too.

Our family has been using the WGA geocache series as part of our guide to continue exploring new-to-us state parks each year. I definitely would like to see a series remain as we have been working on being able to check off all the parks. If there is a good reason to revise/replace some of them, I’d be willing to explore, but would like to see the series continue at least in some form.

The views expressed here are that of myself only and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA board

The current plan for the State Park Series is to continue:
    1) A WGA Board member is monitoring all the logs to watch for signs of maintenance related issues.
    2) Trail boss volunteers handle the related maintenance issues. The WGA Board member keeps tabs that it happens in a timely manner.
    3) Trail bosses are confirmed each year and new volunteers are sought if someone backs out.
    4) As needed, the geocaches are moved when conditions warrant.
    5) Seasonal access – the WGA Board member monitoring the series keeps tabs on disables the geocaches related to seasonal access.
There are still many people searching for the series so I would not want to change it drastically anytime soon.
