Hi BOD nominees.  What is one of your geocaching qualities that will make you a good board member?  Examples could be persistence, knowledge of nature/parks, always having a pen handy…but I would love to hear your own ideas.

    Hello amita17!

I would say one of my geocaching qualities is persistence. I like to see things through to their completion, even if it’s a five star difficulty blade of grass cache container in the middle of an open field!

I like to explore and geocaching has really been a great way to learn about the state since moving back 2.5 years ago.  Being newer to the area and willing to explore may provide the board with a fresh set of eyes on activities, etc.

I like to try finding all cache types. I have my favorites, but I understand that every cacher is interested in a different cache type or a different way to play the game/sport. I also like to hide caches. I try to make my caches interesting to read and unique enough to generate a favorite point. As a board member I hope to help “raise the bar” to challenge hiders to create high quality caches, regardless of the cache type.

I like taking on the challenge caches in geocaching.  By working to achieve a specific challenge, it keeps us going and trying new things in geocaching.  I get a sense of accomplishment with each challenge we meet.  For example, one challenge out there is to find a geocache in 10% of the counties (314 counties) in the United States. When we found this challenge, we were about 70 counties short.  As we planned our geocaching adventures, I would pick out caches to get new counties and within a year we completed the challenge.  As part of the board, I would take on the various challenges and focus on meeting those challenges with the same determination I use to achieve the geocaching challenges.

I like to try and find all cache types. I am a persistent type cacher and am persistent by nature. I am not one that gives up easily in geocaching. As a current BOD member I like to see things through to completion and find ways to get things done. I would continue forward with this if re-elected.

I started geocaching when I was working with Scouts with Special Needs (I was helping a nephew with SN, who has since gotten his Eagle!).  I was supposed to take a class pertinent to my position as an ADC (Assistant District Commissioner).  But the class was full, so I looked to see what other classes were available…Orienteering?  Interesting.  Geocaching?  Okay.

I loved the classes!  Turned out to be a perfect mix of characteristics that I have:  willingness to adventure, enjoyment of nature, puzzle solving, persistence, etc.  That’s what I love most about Caching.  It isn’t one dimensional.  You can work physically, mentally and emotionally…that mix of “I got this!” and “I can’t believe it took so long.”  Always challenging and entertaining.  I think that this blend of interests will help me to be a good board member.

One of my traits that could definitely help me in geocaching is my persistence.   I don’t easily give up in my search for a cache.   This could carry over to the board with my determination to see an activity/event that I’m passionate about carried through with.
