MemberI believe that as BOD, we are to represent the WGA’s mission of communication, education, meeting people, and having fun whether it’s a WGA or non-WGA event. I think at WGA events, it’s important to mingle and get to know the membership and encourage the membership to get involved with WGA events and encourage them to have their own events.
I also believe that as BOD we should support our membership with their events the best we can with the means we have to do so. Continuing to fund CITOs during CITO weeks, supporting our only Mega event by representing Wisconsin and offering different services and merchandise to the geocaching community, offering help to support Geo-101 classes (or any other education-related programs), and promoting their events to encourage others to attend are just some examples.
As BOD, we need to listen to what the membership is asking and do the best to make those requests happen. At the end of the day, it’s about gathering with like-minded people and having a good time socializing with one another and sharing ideas.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

ParticipantI believe that a board member should be present as a representative of the WGA, regardless of the type of event. They should be there to provide information, to encourage and educate, but mostly to listen to the concerns and suggestions of the attendees. Of course the WGA and WGA sponsored events require the board members to play additional roles as hosts and facilitator.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

MemberI believe the board member should represent WGA well regardless of the event. They should be able to not only answer questions but be able to assist anyone who needs help; as well as give a few pointers on different ways to be involved with geocaching and WGA. They should also be able to show just how much fun geocaching can be.

ParticipantBoard members, regardless of what type of event they are at, should always remember they are a representative of the WGA and should support the WGA’s mission. BOD must listen to members concerns, requests and if possible make it happen. You try to do as the members want regardless of your personal feelings. You are here to represent the members, not yourself. In additon, if it is a WGA event you have responsibilities to help plan the event and at the event do your part to make the event run smooth so everyone can have a fun time.

MemberI would say that as a BOD member, there is a need to be social while attending events (no matter what type of event it is). Listening and communicating with those in attendance provides a window to their thoughts and helps to move the organization along.
The responsibilities to WGA events will definitely be more involved. The planning of these events will start months in advance and will require commitment from much of the BOD. It is also important at these events to “sell” the organization and the benefits it brings to our state and communities.

MemberThe roll of the BOD at events, whether WGA sponsored or not, is to be professional, social, and interactive with all other cahcers and the community. One of the best ways to draw members to the WGA and Geocaching is how members, especially board members portray themselves when at these events. I imagine that at WGA events there will be more involvement from the board members with planning and making sure that things run smoothly so being a part of that will be instrumental to the success of these events.

I believe that as board members, first and foremost we should polite, professional and mature. Secondly live the motto of the WGA, including mission statements and the like. Thirdly and more to your point, I think at WGA or sponsored events, it should be all hands on deck. Im thinking of the upcoming chilli feed event. Although, some events like Cache Bash, I think it would be too much to ask for all board members to be there all day, working. After all, all work and no play makes Johnny very… As far as non WGA events, I think the first 2 points and not the third. I have hosted a few events, and never expected help from anyone, board members or not. If I’m going to create an event, then I’m going to take on that challenge myself or ask others, but I wouldn’t expect them to be forced.
The views expressed here are that of myself only and do not necessarily represent that of the WGA board.

ParticipantI believe the BOD should either fill in where the membership cannot. The BOD is the voice of the membership, whether its taking polls to see what the membership thinks instead of deciding for them.
