“Leadership is not about enforcing the rules, playing politics, protecting the status quo, or command & control. Leadership is about earning the trust of people, then creating an environment where they can excel. Success is a process not a goal.”
Do you agree or disagree with this statement and why?
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

01/12/2019 at 10:03 am #2061846Leadership is a skill. Bad leaders use force, coercion, and their position of power to further their own agenda. Good leaders find the skills of others and help develop and nurture those skills to advance everyone. Building on the skills of others makes it easier for everyone to succeed. Success can be a process and a goal. To succeed, you need to have a definite result in mind, but success can also be measured by the growth of the team as a result of honing their skills. Even if the end result is not the expected outcome, if the team learned and grew, there is some measure of success.

01/14/2019 at 7:44 am #2061871In my experience, the best leaders are the ones who have been through the process of following and know what goes on in the ranks below them. When they achieve a leadership position, they have a better understanding of what needs to be done to help those they are leading; to help them succeed which helps the leader succeed.
01/15/2019 at 9:08 pm #2061904I feel that leadership is huge to make groups run like a well oiled machine. I feel I am not there to reinvent the wheel but to help keep the train going forward that great leaders ahead of us put on the tracks. The leader is only as strong as the people they are behind them supporting them. If you are a leader or a supporter we are a team as 1.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
02/06/2019 at 3:24 pm #2062222Leadership is about identifying the strengths of all team members and working to bring those out to enhance the organization. It takes recognizing the challenges they have so to find the balance.
Leadership is about getting the right people on the boat and encouraging everyone to keep rowing in the same direction.
