The WGA is a statewide organization representing geocachers from all over.  The State of Wisconsin is divided into quadrants that rotate Spring Picnic, Fall Campout, Chili Feed, GIFF, and perhaps other events at times.

What is your thoughts on keeping fairness where events are hosted?

Basically anywhere from Superior to Kenosha, GreenBay to the Iowa State Line.  The Chili Event has been kept central these past few years so that the distance is the same or close to it for all involved and those attending.

I think it’s great that events are spread out throughout the state. What a great way to explore areas we may not normally see. As long as they keep rotating I think the current method is working well. WGA is for ALL Wisconsin geocachers.

I feel it is important to keep the rotation of events in the four quadrants of the state. This provides an opportunity for members to cache in parts of the state they may not have visited. For some traveling across the state might not be feasible, so having events come to their area in a rotation gives them the chance to attend. Having the events show up on Geocaching.com can encourage folks who are not familiar with the WGA to attend an event that is close to them and they just might join WGA.

I like that we have quadrants for the picnics and campouts.  The last few years the central location of the chili event (thanks to the author of this question) has been in Stevens Point.  That location has worked out quite well and its the best price (free!)

I would like to see the WGA go to state parks/forests/etc that we haven’t already been to before.

Please note: my comments are mine alone and may not necessarily reflect an official stance of the WGA Board of Directors.

Pretty much the practice of rotating the Picnic and Campout have worked very well to enable the WGA to reach all parts of the state.

I have liked sponsoring member run CITO events and hope that can continue.

With the return of the GIFF events this coming Fall, I would like to see WGA offer sponsorships to cover venue rentals if needed, so we can realize at least 1 GIFF event in each quadrant.

I have liked the hosting of the Chili event in a more central location in the state due to typical weather conditions during that time of year, it makes it more feasible for more people across the state to attend.

I could see how it would be easy for event locations to be unevenly dispersed if there are more board members from one portion of the state, but it also sounds like there are some good ideas in place to help keep everyone within reach of WGA events.

I think that access to events is key to getting new members and helping continuing members make deeper connections within the community. Additionally, Wisconsin is a state with such a varied and beautiful landscape that it would be a shame for WI geocachers to miss out on everything our area has to offer! Part of why I placed the Cache Across America – Wisconsin cache in Thorp was to help it be more centrally located, so that visitors would be able to discover more of what makes us all happy to call this place home.

I think a functional way to make sure we rotate through areas is to keep a record of what county each event has been held in for the year. If there is an area that looks like it is not getting much activity, we could prioritize that. This could be done with where we hold bigger events, or trying to help facilitate smaller member-led events. We could even track this data over the years to see how even the spread is over time.

This is a great question I hadn’t previously considered, thanks for asking!
