With other social media options, what are your ideas to keep the WGA website active, integrate content, increase member participation, or in some other way revolutionize the WGA online presence?

The WGA website is a wealth of information for new members and the Board of Directors. There isn’t much content that applies to the everyday member, unless they enjoy the banter of the forums. Most of our membership has established the way they cache and don’t look to the website for insight or help. Unfortunately, this also does not help to share the knowledge that they may be able to provide to members who may have questions, or are undecided on what part of the game they enjoy most. This would be the most important reason I can see for directing our membership to the website.

While we need to maintain the website as our archives and permanent source of information to our members, communicating with our membership needs to take place on the platforms they decide. Social media has taken the world by storm and has become one of the most efficient ways of communicating. Whatever method the membership interacts with the most, that is the platform we need to embrace. As I’m typing this, I am watching the Shawshank Redemption. There is a line in the movie that makes perfect sense in this instance. “You get busy living, or you get busy dying.” If we don’t make an effort to change with the times, we will never progress into the future. At the time the WGA was founded, we needed the website to communicate easily. With the changing times, we have been presented with new opportunities to more easily spread our message.

I will always strive to direct members to the website with questions and concerns directly related to our organization, but I believe day to day communication is most efficiently done through social media. Followers of our Facebook page get notifications when we make announcements, post event updates, and encourage participation in the organization. With little effort, we communicate with our entire membership. If we were to work strictly through the website, we would have to guide everyone to the page in order to deliver our message.

Our organization is one of people and technology, and I would hope that the WGA, with or without my presence on the Board of Directors, will always embrace the ever changing world we live in. The changes in the technology, and the changes of the people who use it.

My posts should in no way be considered as the views or opinions of the WGA or its Board of Directors. All posts made under my name are my personal opinions only.

Trying to get interest into the website has always been an issue. Let’s face it who doesn’t go to facebook first? The website is awesome for the info of the WGA. To keep forums going is tough but we still need to try and keep using the website forums. If we get new cachers looking at forums that nobody uses they will be like doesn’t anybody use the website or is nobody active.

On facebook is always good to get the word out on current happenings events or if the WGA is looking for assistance for a 101 or if a newbie wants a partner. I would like to open it up do cachers can post on the fb page.

Either way social media is here for long haul but as us cachers need to help keep website active as possible it is so full of great history. Thank you

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

As much as social media has changed the face of communication, the website is still a vital part of it. Yes it is good for the information it provides but an update is always helpful. I think of my fiance’s job. He is a mechanic at a dealership in Wausau. Recently, a larger dealership down the road completely remodeled and gave their existing building a face-lift. It looks much newer and nicer than before and shows that business is good and they are doing well. Now his work has built a new shop to also give the dealership a boost and keep up their public appearance. In my opinion, the website is good however I believe a face-lift in is in order. I think changing certain layouts and adding some more options for existing members to still get something new out of it like new members would will certainly help the WGA’s image. Yes the group is doing a lot but for someone who is just perusing, the website may make it seem like it is struggling. Speaking as a graphic designer, it is not hard to make a website look new again.

The WGA website is in need of work and I do believe knowing what is happening behind the scenes that this is currently in the works.  Members who have the skills necessary are stepping up to make it happen so it has just been the matter of asking and having the right people fall into place!  I key piece that needs to be recognized is that WGA is made up of volunteers who have work and family commitments that do need to come first at times.  I personally am having a difficult time with the website being slow and unable to open on an ipad.  After work, I spend an hour or two every day in physical therapy and it would be easier for me to keep up if I could interact via my Ipad.
