You have already made the decision to put yourself out there and run for a BOD position. You’ve read the information about what is expected from a director and feel that you can meet those demands. For that I salute you! Moving forward however, the desire may ebb and wane and you may be called on to do things that you may not wish to do, all for the goal of pleasing the membership. What can you bring to the party to help you and your fellow directors stay on task, trudge forward when all is bleak, and build morale when things get tough; and what can you bring to help celebrate the accomplishments made and to make it all fun for the members?
(It’s not all doom and gloom folks. Just want to make it real. I wouldn’t be running yet again if I didn’t enjoy almost every minute)

01/10/2016 at 9:54 am #2045952I would definitely bring a huge cuppa coffee – the ultimate ‘think drink.’ With a two year commitment, I’m “in” for the long-haul!
“Patience is a Virtue” is old but true when working with fellow directors and members. Staying calm will help diffuse emotional reactions and get back on task with calm logical thinking.
Next thought would be clear and well-defined goals. Staying on track is tough when there is a very diverse group with perhaps their own ideas. Staying on track when the group is far apart from each other and few face-to-face meetings will be a challenge to ‘stay together’ on our goals. Then leadership will need to be there from each of us to keep ourselves first, then the group focus on the goals. Another aspect for the group is teamwork which will be another need to achieve the goals. There will be leaders, but there needs to be followers to get things done. Perhaps I can blend in and be both within this group.
New members? New Ideas? Yes. Or same thing, but “different!”
Celebrate! Everyone can take a turn with my soon to be made “Stumpf Fiddle.” There just might be a trackable attached to it. Sweetlife’s Signal just might be able to use it too.

01/10/2016 at 11:35 am #2045955When the going gets tough the tough get going! As a carpenter I have to troubleshoot and come up with a plan of atack every time I open the back of my truck and drag my tools out. The same goes for when I put my fire gear on, as a fire Fighter and Emergency Medical Responder things can go south in a heartbeat. You need to act. (Not React). We all work together to save a life or property.
A car can’t go down the road on 3 wheels now can it! Same with a Board of Directors, all involved need to work together. If one person has an idea that the others don’t necessarily agree with it may trigger another to come up with a better one. Let’s face it, you can plan an event till your blue in the face but if someone drops the ball or something is forgotten you need to come up with a quick fix. What can I bring to the party?
I’m a go getter, I put 100% into whatever I do as much as I possibly can. I know what it’s takes to put an event together. Time, resources, planning. Just to name a few. I am also on the fundraiser committee on my Fire Department and we did a Fireman’s picnic every year. Live music, a parade, food and drinks, water fights and many other activities for the entire weekend. That event took all year to plan, unfortunately there were too many Chiefs and not enough Indians so that event doesn’t happen anymore. I honestly don’t know exactly what goes on in the squirrel cage within the WGA BOD. Only the current or past BOD members really know the answer to that. I do know that I’m ready, willing and able to do my part.
01/10/2016 at 3:45 pm #2045970When faced with a challenge, all fellow directors need to be on the same page by focusing on the solution after identifying the problem. We are a team and must work together towards that common goal. And, I believe that bringing my positive attitude to the party will not only keep me focused on the task at hand, it also creates an atmosphere that others can feel in the air around them. If we lived and operated by the Golden Rule and remember to show respect to each and every member, no matter if we agree with them or not, an amicable and acceptable outcome will happen for all parties involved and that is celebration all in itself.
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

01/12/2016 at 10:42 am #2046026What can I bring to the party? Well, what does the WGA need? What can I do to help? Some attributes that I have, that I think will benefit the WGA are:
Fun! Life is too short not to have fun. No, everything is not always peachy, but remembering to look on the bright side of things is important. This is supposed to be fun, and remembering that will be helpful when those dreary times come.
Focus. What needs to be done, and how can we get there? Staying on task isn’t always easy, but focusing on what needs to be done to get the job completed is our ultimate goal.
Respect. With so many diverse people and ideas, it’s important to understand that while you may not always agree, respect and consideration can go a long way.
Flexible. I enjoy learning and trying new things, and while change is not always pleasant, it is inevitable. I adapt well, and am flexible when things do not go according to plan. I’m definitely a person who can “go with the flow,”

01/12/2016 at 3:09 pm #2046036Well, for starters, you can’t think on an empty stomach. Best bring some snacks for a little bit of a jump start! Staying organized is one main key. It helps for everyone to be on the same page, have all the information, and have each person know what they need to do for the group to be successful. Keeping focus in the meeting is another. There is a time for play, but there is also a time to problem solve and deal with issues at hand. We just need to keep in mind who we are doing this for and that is for geocachers everywhere.
01/15/2016 at 1:18 pm #2046138I bring a positive attitude, enthusiasm and hard work to the table. A positive attitude goes a long way and even in the worst case scenario there is always something positive to be found. I am normally very positive thinking and try to spread that positive thinking to others even though that sometimes is a very hard task. When things don’t seem to be working as they should we all need to work hard and brainstorm the problem and solution. All ideas are worth pursuing. Who knows an idea that you may think is dumb may open the way to a solution to the problem.
01/17/2016 at 8:50 pm #2046185I suppose I should answer my own question:
I would continue to bring experience to the party. I can continue to be a mentor for new directors and a sounding board for the veterans. My understanding of the processes in place currently assist to make smooth transitions in any new processes that may be decided on. My contacts inside and outside of geocaching can be utilized in projects that come up.
