As Stephen Covey says, “A mission statement is not something you write overnight . . . But fundamentally, your mission statement becomes your constitution, the solid expression of your vision and values. It becomes the criterion by which you measure everything else in your life.”
What is your mission statement as it applies to being a BOD on the Wisconsin Geocaching Association?
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.

01/13/2017 at 7:33 am #2053166The purpose of the WGA is to work with the DNR, and other property management officials, to protect the rights of geocachers, and to provide the opportunity for geocachers to gather and socialize. The WGA promotes CITO’s, trail/park maintenance and helps to educate geocachers about the responsible use of natural resources, and to educate non-geocachers, about geocaching.
If elected, my mission statement as a BOD would be to continue to promote preservation of our parks/trails, and to continue to educate geocachers and non-geocachers on various topics surrounding geocaching, and the environment in which caches are placed.

01/13/2017 at 9:18 am #2053169After overthinking this question for a while, I’ve come to what I believe is my mission statement. I’ve never considered having a mission statement, or if I even needed one. I looked at my company’s mission statement posted all over the factory and realized that I don’t need to make a great product to make my customers happy. I am selling myself here, but that’s not what I want in life. I thought about how I could have some really wishy washy idea of life in general, or a rigid standard to hold myself to. In the end I came to realize that I needed a fluid mission statement that can change as my life changes.
“Keep things in perspective.”
I realize that no matter what, life is about keeping the small things small, and the big things big. Getting cut off in traffic, kind of small potatoes. Getting married, having children, probably want to keep those as big things.
How does this pertain to a board member of the WGA? Keeping things in perspective helps to keep focus on the things that really matter to the WGA and it’s members, and less on trivial things that might just be a stumbling block that can be easily overcome. Did we not have a t-shirt in a particular color and size and miss out on a sale? Not a huge deal if this missed sale happens at an event that we put enough time and energy into that the “missed sale” returns to the next event we host. Making the event great was a big thing, the missed sale wasn’t. We take note and move on. That event that we put our focus on may just have introduced a kid that used to spend his days on the couch playing video games to a new technology that gets him into the woods enjoying life. I would feel that would be a big thing in the world of the WGA.
The biggest thing I’m going to keep in perspective is that this is just an election to the board of directors for the WGA. Do I want to serve on the board? Yes, or I wouldn’t be running. Is it the end if the world if I don’t make it? No, the WGA will be just fine as it alwats has been. The board members will do just a good of job with or without me.
My posts should in no way be considered as the views or opinions of the WGA or its Board of Directors. All posts made under my name are my personal opinions only.
01/13/2017 at 9:56 pm #2053196My mission statement as a Board Member would be similar to my personal mission statement.
“Be a person of high energy and integrity, while respecting the views and opinions for those around me to further the membership of the WGA and geocaching overall.”
My mission statement may not be in-depth or wordy, but why use 100 words when 28 will do? All my actions can be held accountable to the simple questions, was that my best effort? Did I handle myself in a positive way? Did I treat that person/people they way I would want my Mom to be treated? If I can answer yes to all those questions I know I can hold my head high with what ever I did or am doing.

01/15/2017 at 8:46 pm #2053238As I just got nominated and try to go through the posts and try to catch up to the party I’m not good at putting my thoughts to words on paper or now the screen I like letting actions speak. I will try my best to answer this question.. My mission statement as a BOD member would be.
“Lets not try to redirect the train we have going but keep it going down the the tracks and make it even better than what it already is.”
Not hear to rebuild just keep it going for future generations.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.
01/17/2017 at 7:35 pm #2053268My mission statement would be “increase esponsiveness”.
As all types of forum posts, questions, directives, and roles, these all come down to the board being responsive to the situation. From members to the visitors, and as leaders we are all here to help the WI geocaching community educate the importance of what geocaching is.
01/29/2017 at 3:38 pm #2053449I have debated very hard on my answer for this question so here goes. I decided to be genuine because does a person survive a traumatic personal life event and come out the same following? AuntieNae 2017 is a survivor that is a stronger person. Life is to short, things can change so very quickly; you need to enjoy every moment! I made the decision to run for the WGA BOD again because I have enjoyed the experience, the people I have met and the places it has taken me so far. I would have never enjoyed the Wisconsin State Parks I have visited if it was not for the WGA events. I have more to share and bring to the position.
