Please explain in detail the skills and qualities you have that will be an asset to the WGA members.

Hi Walkingadventure, The Skills that I have that I think that qualifies me to be on the WGA Member Board is that I am a very easy person to get along with, I am usually happy and have a smile on my face and I feel that this is needed to be representing WGA. I like greeting Geocaching with Welcome and most often you will see me at the Check In at the WGA events. If I am asked any questions from Geocachers, most always I have an answer, If I do not, I can always refer anyone to someone that knows the answer. I am very proud to be a Geocaher in my Community/Family.

no, really, I guess this is a difficult question to answer without trying to make it sound better than it is.

one of the qualities I have been said to have is that I am not reactive, basically, I don’t make snap decisions. I hold off and get the whole story or gather all the facts before making conclusions. I also look at what the conversation is and the direction it is going and may or may not decide to enter the fray. This can be a good thing and it can be a bad thing. Depends on the situation.

I am a better writer than orator. Given the time to think and plan out what I want to convey, I can do a good job. If I need to speak in public or an interview situation, I fear that what I say will not be what I intend or I will leave out something important. It usually ends up with me sitting down and minutes later going, “oh, man, I wanted to say….”

I am not an extrovert. I don’t go for crowds and tend to stick to smaller groups. I don’t make good chit-chat but get me on a subject that is near and dear and I can talk for extended periods.

I don’t talk about myself well, meaning I don’t like to talk about myself much. There are those who seem to be able to go on for hours about things they have done or places they have been. Me, I tend to keep much of that internal, dare I say humble. I don’t really think that when someone asks how you are, they really want to hear it, and I don’t want to bore them.

I have also served on the WGA board of directors for four years as well as having served on the BOD for Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp for 3 years, and the BOD of Wisconsin Central Adventures. Hoping that during these times, I made some good contributions to the effort.

I hope this answered the question. It is easy to ramble and lose track of what the point of the answer is.

I’d have to say the main skills that would help me on the board are multi-tasking and problem solving.

Honestly, with the boys there is always an emergency, usually two or three and I have had to make sure that I can take whatever comes on the fly and find a way to resolve the issue.

I’m the best me that’s ever been me.

I can pick things up and put them done.
I can make quick decisions or plan ahead as the situation dictates.
I still haven’t learned to keep my mouth shut, so I have a tendency to accidentally volunteer for things.
Fiercely loyal and a little stubborn.

This is rather hard because I don’t take myself seriously enough to list out my skills, abilities or qualities. Usually, I just think to myself that I want to do this. Then I do it.

Connections…I have personally cached with “The Grand High Pobah” in Denver (author of CacherStats webpage), graldrich in Phoenix, AZ and jahoadie and john in San Diego, CA.

I have also visited Geocaching HQ in Seattle.

The ability to listen. Get the information that I need to make a decision without prejudging.

The ability to train and lead. 12 years active in the fire service. Three of which were Assistant Training officer and three more as Captain and Training officer.

The spirit of adventure and exploration.

Flexibility- the ability to try something new or to change when something isn’t working. (back to my fire service days, if the fire isn’t going out, or the situation is getting worse, you need to do something differently or something else).

My best skills are usually seen at events where the work needs to get done. I’m always there helping with setup like at the pancake breakfasts, or the picnic. I’m definitely more of a doer, though I don’t have a problem with helping to plan things either.
