We have not but I did hear that they are changing one requirement. The clunker does not have to be insured for one year any more.
This is a nice program for those in the market. One thing I have found out “just browsing” is that dealers are less receptive to negotiating the price because they know about the $3500-4500 CARS program. The price is firm because they know customers will probably still buy the vehicle.
Still paying off the newer car, and the older one (well, really both) gets decent mileage–not a clunker. Even our ’89 Escort that we got rid of over two years ago was still getting 25 mpg if we ever dared take it out of town. But it was too old to be clunker.
Wonder what the deals will be and what the car industry will be like when we’re ready to buy again in a few years.

I gave my Lumina APV to my son to drive. It has about 190,000 miles on it but runs pretty good. NO RUST either! Ok, that is because it has a plastic body. It’s rated according to the gov’t at 18 mpg’s

I can’t say I haven’t had problems with the vehicle because I have but with age and wear that will happen to any vehicle. I know my son enjoys driving it even though not many 17 year old kids drive a minivan! I know that he likes sitting up higher so that he can see better which I agree with.
They ought to expand this to GPSrs. If you have a GPS that can’t display more than 6 characters in the cache ID name or doesn’t have a color screen you get $75 to upgrade your clunker. If you have a Lowrance you get $100 automatically.

No, if you have a H20 you have to pay them to dispose of it. Or just wait long enough and it will self-destruct.
