They ought to expand this to GPSrs. If you have a GPS that can’t display more than 6 characters in the cache ID name or doesn’t have a color screen you get $75 to upgrade your clunker. If you have a Lowrance you get $100 automatically.
Magellan owners have to use there gps to find the correct store to get their discount, coordinates are posted on their website, (I dont see many of these owners getting the discount as they wont be able to find where they are going) π
08/07/2009 at 11:36 pm #1912110I say, what a bunch of crap. I have to pay for yet another program that I am unable to take advantage of. This will help put some people back to work, but for how long. And to get those people back to work, other people that are out of work need to buy a newer car and go deeper in debt to pay bills that they can’t already afford. Only 7 1/2 more years to go. Gee is the future bright. End of rant.
08/08/2009 at 1:36 am #1912111FF I understand your thoughts… I too can’t partake but yet have to pay…as well my truck doesn’t qualify for anything that is actually useful. You can’t slide sideways and gain some mpg/emissions…nor go bigger and save mpg when towing…frustrating…
One coworker said that they should’ve taken the bailout funds and split it between every tax payer in the US… what was it, 800billion and the 2007 tax payers were about 138 million(wikipedia)… Mathman, what does that make?
Would’ve probably gone south real fast but an interesting thought nonetheless…

What do you mean? It’s “from the government,” so it’s “free,” right? And when they run out of money they just print more. π‘

Actually the Total will be $3 billion
That is roughly $21.74 per taxpayer

Just the opposite, I’m looking for that $1000 dollar clunker!
Good luck with that. They have to seize the engine as part of the recycling.
I’m not buying from dealer, I’m looking for a private seller of a cheap van.
I gave my Lumina APV to my son to drive. It has about 190,000 miles on it but runs pretty good. NO RUST either! Ok, that is because it has a plastic body. It’s rated according to the gov’t at 18 mpg’s
So would you recommend the van? I found a pontiac trans sport with only 135k on it. I’m really considering it, so any feedback would be great!
I had a Lumina, of 3 vans Ihad in a row. I loved it and all my mini vans. Drove great, good MPG, haul all the crap I wanted, not much for up keep, till I hit 2 deer with it. Left and right side. Didn’t pay to fix it. But IF I had to geta mini van again, I’d have no problem with it. Upgraded to a Tahoe or as my wife called it, “Big Boy TRUCK”.

No, the big package, not the auto plan(stole my own thread). If I do the math right it wasn’t as good as the coworker thought, 5797.10 per tax payer.
08/09/2009 at 2:33 pm #1912116I’m waiting for all these people who bought a new car to get them repossesed in 6-9 months for being unable to make the car payments.
THis program is nothing but a crock.08/10/2009 at 2:43 pm #1912117I’m not sure that I agree with the program, as there are many pro’s an con’s to it, but I am taking advantage of it. The lease is up on the wifes car, and my old Geo-Jimmy is just rotting in the drive. Her car has to be back by Sept. 5th (extended the lease 2 months) so within the next week or so, we’re trading in the Geo-Jimmy on this program to score her a new Kia Soul. We qualified for the $4500 rebate!
08/10/2009 at 5:32 pm #1912118Cash for Clunkers is just giving the auto industry the money to buy themselves back from Uncle Sam.
They were already bailed out by the government becoming a partner. Now that government is giving them free money to pay back the government.
Sum Total, US Taxpayers are out the original bailout money + any of the rebates that went to foreign car companies!

Enjoy it TyeDye, I’ll be working a long time to pay off my share of it. By the way, I have a hot date coming up Saturday night. I’ll need it for a few hours. π

We all will, that’s why I’m using it. The money is going to be spent whether I take it or not, so I might as well!
08/11/2009 at 4:44 pm #1912121[Rant]
I could not with a clear conscience ever spend $4500 that future generations to come will need to pay off. An ill conceived $850 million “plan” that got $2 billion more added to it?
Kat hit the nail on the head when she said how many are going to be repossessed in 9 months? π
The people this “plan” is geared towards are driving POS’s for a reason…….they don’t have the money, wants or needs for a new vehicle. Now you dangle piles of cache (ooops, I meant cash) in front of their faces like a bottle of Ripple in front of a skid row bum? Not everyone will fall into my stereotype, but the majority will. A hand out not earned is just that, a hand out.
What’s the next plan? Cash for rice bikes, jet skis, ATV’s, snowmobiles? Better yet, cash for clunker guns! Oh yeah that’s right, this administration want’s to disarm all of the “sheeple”. π
[/Rant] Flame suit on! π
08/11/2009 at 5:20 pm #1912122Excellent points Miata!! Hey, only piece of my gun the govt will get is..well, never mind. No need to report me either, I’ve taken that liberty myself.
Anyways, the fact that all these old clunkers cannot be resold seems to me there will be far fewer used cars on the lots for consumers to buy. So either the enviromental friendly crap car that can’t haul bleep or public transportation seems to be the way of the future. Makes me sick to no end. Better go buy my previously owned, big arse, gas-guzzling, pollution enhancing, can haul evenrything in one load vehicle now before they are all gone!!
Hmm..Wonder how long it will be before they start taxing the hell out of all those non eco-friendly cars out there?08/11/2009 at 5:26 pm #1912123I can’t understand what all you people are complaining about this program for. This is FREE MONEY people! It’s from THE GOVERNMENT!!!! Woo hoo!!!!
