[Rant]
I could not with a clear conscience ever spend $4500 that future generations to come will need to pay off. An ill conceived $850 million “plan” that got $2 billion more added to it?
Kat hit the nail on the head when she said how many are going to be repossessed in 9 months? π
Considering the fact that it’s harder than ever to get credit, I think most people buying these cars will be people like my wife and I that have good credit and the ability to pay, but were just unsure about buying another new car in this economy. Had this deal not come along, I know we would have gone with a used car for around $10k at best. Now we can get a new car, with a 100k warranty for the exact same payment as that $10k used car with no warranty.
I’m not defending the bill, but hell if I’m not taking advantage of something I’m going to be paying for anyway.

“Democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.”

Wonder what stage we’re in…

08/11/2009 at 10:33 pm #1912130Oh lordy this thread is gonna get ugly(ier?) real quick….
On the Left Side of the Road...08/12/2009 at 12:48 am #1912131At least my 15+ year old truck doesn’t have to go through emission testing anymore. A few more years and the collectors’ plates go on. Of course the registration will be tripled by then. I’ll give up my truck when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.
08/12/2009 at 1:32 am #1912132I put on my flame suit expecting the worst. π I am sure that the few on here that do take advantage of the offer would have possibly bought any way. I am sitting in the tavern parking lot typing in the dark now and need to get going.
Poor mans “Up North Internet”. π I have the bar owners blessing..
08/12/2009 at 11:53 am #1912133Heard on the news this morning that the program has pretty much blown through the additional $2 B cache…I mean “cash” infusion.
Who knew that giving away money would be so popular?

…and they may start issuing vouchers for a future purchase as there are no more cars left on the lots left to buy…..
08/12/2009 at 12:52 pm #1912135And now I have to spend twice as much to get that 3-4 year old used car for my daughter to drive to school.
Looks like she will be waiting until she gets out of college before she gets a car!

I’m in that boat as well. My daughter is still about 2 years from a car but the search is already on…I saw a really nice red Mitsubishi Eclipse for $5K yesterday….hummm is the car for her or for me…..

Is it too late for you to adopt me? My first car was a Pinto station wagon. Copper color with wood-grain “paneling” and plaid seats. I kid you not.
Two words: Chick Magnet π
