I received this in an e-mail today and I thought that I would share this with our community. I know there are a lot of us that take our kids caching, and sometimes their friends, and many of us will CITO along the way and quite often the kids will join in and help. So please be careful and report anything suspicious. There is a video on the SNOPES link below.

One of the bad things is that once this info gets around some other people will try this. I certainly didn’t know that this combo would make a bomb this serious. Truly, please read this and take “heed.”

    NOT A JOKE!

Pass this on to everybody you know. Anybody that sees a plastic bottle in their yard would think nothing of picking it up to throw it away.
Looks like these things are starting to pop up around the U.S. Check the Snopes web site below, it’s pretty scary.

Important warning! NOT A JOKE! Pay attention to this.

    5. Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM (Less than 30 seconds)!!
    6. No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.

People are finding these bombs in mailboxes and in their yards, just waiting for someone to pick it up intending to put it in the trash.
It takes about 30 seconds to blow after you move the thing.
    See “SNOPES” below….it’s true.

Good warning, but perhaps it would be safer to take the “Recipe” for this concoction off completely and simply state to be aware of bottles with liquids in them. How sad! 😥

This is a McGiver bomb. It will cause a nice boom, will cause bodily damage, not just to fingers but the ingreediance will cause burning to your skin. I have also seen these type of “bombs” cause damage to cars, buildings and other property.

I thought about that shortly after posting, but unless I’m blind, there is no edit button.

I took the liberty of moderating the recipe from the original post in the best interest of our member community.

If I have overstepped please send me a PM.

Thanks Shane. I would hope no one would argue this one. 🙂

I don’t think that having the instructions in the original post makes a difference one way or the other. The recipe for these bombs is easy enough to find on the internet. The most important thing is to realize that this is a serious and real threat. There were 3 of these recently found in Marshfield. No one was injured, but it is kind of scary when it happens in your back yard.

All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

But if somebody does a search, do we really want our site to come up in the results? Better safe than sorry if you ask me.

A few years back my son and a few of his knucklehead buddies showed me their “trick”. I stomped that out pretty quick.

Don’t think it’s that serious?…ask the teen in Sturgeon Bay that did this that I think was arrested, lost his basketball scholarship, etc. I think the local authorities were prosectuting this as a firebombing.

Was driving down the street last year and found a melted bottle and knew exactly what had happened.

This is nothing to play with.

Thanks much, Cheeto. I really appreciate it.

A couple of months ago I had some kids blow up a few of these next to my neighbors car.

I found two enlarged swollen bottles in my yard…the ones I found in my yard I shot with a BB gun from a safe distance…they did not explode violently so perhaps the mix on these was off a bit. The bottles blown up by the neighbors car were quite loud and sounded like gun shots.

If you see soda bottles that are in unusual places or appear swollen do not touch them.
