I maintain two bookmarks for cemetery caches in Wisconsin – those with WSQ in the title, and those without it. (And there are probably some out there I’m not aware of).
This week the combined total went over 700.
These caches offer a fascinating view of Wisconsin. First, the drive to them are down country roads. Then, the settings, the wide variety of headstones, the different veteran flag holders, the names and phrases engraved on the stone, etc – they all offer a great historical view of our ancestors.

07/11/2008 at 3:31 am #1891960I love cemetery caches. They, however don’t like me. I have more problems in cemeteries than any other place as far as my GPSr bouncing all over the place. I am willing to bet that about 70% of the time, I will have at least three different GZs more than 20ft apart. Personally I think there are quite a few practical jokers buried in these cemeteries, and when they see me coming, they know there will at least one more laugh.
07/11/2008 at 11:55 am #1891961We try to include an occasional cemetery cache in each of our adventures. Generally they offer level terrain (with some exceptions – eg GCKKNA ) and little bushwacking with several exceptions. The sculpture can be quite interesting and names give a clue to the origins of the earlier settlers in an area.

If you like unique-looking headstones, check out this cemetery cache (GC1724K). 100 or so yards to the southeast of this cache you will find a headstone with a motorcycle pictured on the back of it. When you do, you will have found my brother and his late wife. This cemetery is only one mile from my home.
07/29/2008 at 1:27 am #1891963Well, barely two weeks later and the list is over 760.
07/29/2008 at 1:29 am #1891964Something else to consider for the buggy summer months – a lot of these places are relatively bug free. Makes for some pleasant caching.

Say what? The last one we did that you put out had so many biting horsefiles I thought we were in Amityville…or maybe it was my cologne… 😯

I now see that the Groupie and the Grouper are on the same page.
07/29/2008 at 4:19 am #1891970I have to say that JimandLinda have some of the most interesting cemetery caches! In speaking via email with Jim, he said he has a book that provides him locations of historical markers, cememteries, etc. If you are in the FDL and surrounding areas, I would for sure recommend their caches!!
07/29/2008 at 4:58 am #1891971I have to agree with the Queen. JimandLinda do have some awesome Cemetary Caches in the Fond Du Lac area. Keep them coming!!!
08/03/2008 at 10:05 pm #1891972Cemetery caches are tops! Usually not too many muggles around, especially the rural, less traveled ones.
And, I agree with BQ…My favorites are the cemetery caches of JimandLinda…in caching my way to my Mom’s near Wautoma there are many, many new ones to do. I can take nearly any route from home (Milwaukee) to Central WI and find a JimandLinda…and I’ve managed to do a few of Marc’s…Thanks guys! -
