One of my pet peeves regarding cemetery hides is “clever” or evil hides. Not appropriate.

My other main pet peeve in general is any hide placed in such a way that people get aggressive in messing up the location in their search. The sport, as it has evolved, seems in some cases to have become “just how hard can I make this for someone to find?” not “can I make this so someone can find it?” A hide can be clever and difficult, with the emphasis on clever being key.

Agreed, when I want to be clever or evil I think it’s time for a puzzle cache where the puzzle is the hard part. If you do the hard brain work, I want your find to be nice and easy!

It’s a shame that this has come about because since we’ve started caching, we enjoy the WSQ caches for the chance to check out the history and headstones associated with them as well as get a smiley. I want to keep enjoying all the nice and peaceful cemeteries out there.

I think its funny that the last 2 wsq’s in my area to publish, said special thanks to pastor so and so, and the hide has been a completely non traditional wsq hide within feet of a sign saying that pastors name on it….

I’m not sure anymore if cemeteries are appropriate for geocaching, which is why I pulled mine, but to each his own.

When I am in a cemetery wether it be for a cache or otherwise, I just tell them I am a Taphophile. Its easier to explain that I love the artwork and engraving on headstones, and that the stories they tell are a piece of history. People “get” history and art, they have a harder time wrapping there heads around hiding some tupperware in a cemetery and using satelites and technology to find it.

I’ve always told caretakers that we want to place a “visitor log” in a little waterproof container, and of course away from graves. Never had a problem (except when the caretaker changes! 😳 )

When I die, I already told my wife I want my headstone to be a cache container and a secret compartment on it for the ultimate “evil” hide. One last send off to all my fellow cachers. 😉

Hopefully, I will not be reviewing caches when you submit that one.
