How the heck can I find out who owns/controls/maintains a cemetery? We came across one of these little rural ones that has just a name sign but no affiliation, contact, etc. Someone’s obviously maintaining it. Perhaps the town clerk?
Sometimes it’s the town or church even county. Office of Land Records would have the info.
Check with your county’s GIS mapping. That may also show ownership.
Some of the very small cemeteries are privately owned.

Call the local undertaker the know everything… at least in small towns. TE
Most small rural cemeteries are managed by the township or county.
