I haven’t been to a geocaching event yet; they have always been too far away. π I have thought about hosting one of my own, but being that I’ve never been to one, I wouldn’t know where to even start.
So I guess this is to anyone in the Stevens Point/Wausau/Rapids/Marshfield area….if you’ve thought about hosting an event, but haven’t been sure if there would be enough interest, I for one, would love to go. In the year+a few months that I’ve been caching, I’ve met only one other cacher. π It would be nice to put some faces to the names of local cachers and share some stories. 8)

06/13/2006 at 5:01 am #1762747We’ve thought about this too. The top of Rib Mt. might make a great spot for getting together? Maybe later this summer? I don’t think we’d need temporary caches or anything- just a grill and a cooler or two…
06/13/2006 at 12:04 pm #1762748Plan a simple meet and greet – my recent Names and Faces drew around 20 people, and all we did was meet in the mall’s food court and talk. Had a great time, with no obligations like finding caches.
06/13/2006 at 6:46 pm #1762749I love Rib Mountain. And there’s a cache there that I want to get! Plan it and they will come!

06/15/2006 at 3:19 am #1762750This sounds like a great idea. I know Chaumer and I would be intrested in a get together. Depending on work scheduals we might be able to get the rest of team Mesaba there. Rib Mtn sounds like a good place to have it also. π
06/15/2006 at 5:18 am #1762751Would a Puzzle cache working session/ meet & greet some early weekday evening work for an idea with multi purpose. I ask becasue I KNOW I won’t please everyone here with the date I am choosing, so I was thinking of having a moving event of sorts.
I am Panning a Perplexed Puzzle cachers event here in the Manitowoc area, to work on various cache puzzle answers, and thought why not have one out that direction and on down south (Milwaukee or so). The Hrs I am planning are from like 5p-9p, that way ppl can get back home and to sleep early. I have off longer stretches and could easily come out that way and plan something think that. Not a HUGE event but a Meet and Greet, Eat and solve puzzles.
06/16/2006 at 6:02 pm #1762752Hmmmm.
I’ve never been to Rib Mountain. *gasp!* That would make for a lovely meet-n-greet, I’m sure. For now, I’ll keep my eyes open for any other activity about this subject, and maybe, just maybe, I’ll try to plan something if no one else does. 8)
-katy-06/16/2006 at 7:00 pm #1762753Just a friendly word of caution…..
From the guidelines at geocaching.com…
Event Caches
Event caches are gatherings that are open to all geocachers and which are organized by geocachers. After the event has passed, the event cache should be archived by the organizer within four weeks. While a music concert, a garage sale, a ham radio field day or townΓ’β¬β’s fireworks display might be of interest to a large percentage of geocachers, such events are not suitable for submission as event caches because the organizers and the primary attendees are not geocachers. In addition, an event cache should not be set up for the sole purpose of drawing together cachers for an organized hunt of another cache or caches. Such group hunts are best organized using the forums or an email distribution list.
The best way to handle this, is to have a “Meet & Greet from say 8 to 10 AM, then mention that afterwards, you are going to tackle “Three Bad Ribs”.

I would LOVE to attend something like this, but it would be impossible on a weekday evening. How about a weekend? Spend a lot of time in the CW area (grew up in Amherst/Waupaca) and would love to see the sport grow up there.
The “eet and greet” is also a wonderful idea. We could plan something in conjunction with the Iola Car Show….if anyone is into vintage metal and heat stroke. 8)
06/19/2006 at 1:26 pm #1762755Don’t know why I haven’t posted to this yet… We’d be glad to help out with an event. Maybe just a simple meet & greet would be nice for starters. Agree on a pizza place everyone likes and then take it over for a couple hours. Get our feet wet and see how many from our area are interested in events?
06/20/2006 at 2:09 am #1762756A weekend would be fine to do the Perplexed Puzzle cachers thing, but I was affraid I would be cutting into precious, primetime caching time, so I opted not to in THIS area. But HEY… we could combine all this stuff at one event. Set aside some time for working on them or have out various caches peole are working on, come up with some idea like that. All us “Bunnies” could put together something and git `er done!! Whatchya thing Team HunnyBunny’s or anyone else for that matter/
07/04/2006 at 2:44 am #1762757Team One Paddle Short will organize this. We are looking at Rib Mt. on Saturday, August 5th. It may be as simple as a grill and a picnic table or we may work on some type of GPSr event (this is yet to be decided). If anyone interested in attending prefers a different date let us know- we have some flexibility.
As far as a puzzle-solving event we don’t have many puzzle caches around here. The only one in Wausau is ours (and I think anyone who is willing to do the math has already found it). The nearest one I can think of is the “Political Affiliation” cache questioned in another thread. We looked at that and figured we’d save it for when we have all the other caches within 50 miles cleaned up. π
Look for more information from One Paddle Short shortly. Har.

07/04/2006 at 3:54 am #1762759Sounds good to us…. we have camped and cached at Rib Mtn.
The 5th would work for us and we may even be able to bring our disabled friend ET to meet everyone. Keep us posted.
Timberline Echoes07/04/2006 at 5:05 am #1762760August 5th would work for us as well. We’d love to come meet some more cacher’s and find some more caches. Let us know what we can do or bring to help.
