Hello. My name is Chad Hintz, better known in the geocaching community as Nyttymer2000. When space is limited, or in during the colder months, I sometimes sign as N2K. I started geocaching in 2008 when I purchased my first GPS. A tomtom navigational GPS for my truck. That’s right- my first introduction to geocaching was with a navigational. Which by the way is not the most ideal unit to use. I found a few caches, and kinda forgot about it for a while. My family didn’t really have much interest in it, so any time spent on it was solo.
Fast forward a few years, and I attended one of my first events. A meet and greet birthday party for TBC. I met some new people, and realized there was a whole community of people that shared this interesting hobby. Not long after, attended my first WGA event. A weekend campout.
Scouting has been a big part of my life since my oldest son joined boy scouts at the age of 5. I soon learned how closely tied geocaching is with scouting. I met several people while geocaching that I soon learned were very active in scouts as well. A few years later, I learned that there’s even a merit badge for geocaching! Which I am now a counselor for!
Since I introduced my girlfriend and her family to geocaching, I have found even more reason to get more involved. We have been able to combine geocaching with one of our other favorite activities- camping. We have enjoyed attending the WGA campouts, as it has given us an opportunity to check out more parks that we may not have otherwise visited.
Thank you for the nomination. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the geocaching community as a member of the WGA board.
