Sorry, but I see no constructive purpose for them.

Here’s another challenge cache that you own(ed): GCMDMC

Every challenge I can think of is basically a “6 pack” of some sort…find a number of underlying caches before you can log the bonus/challenge cache. The only difference among them is in the degree of difficulty or number of caches required.

Are you saying one archived cache years ago nullifies or lessens my point? Not a chance. Last I looked, we are not the ones actively creating and placing challenge caches.

Well, I have neither the time, inclination, nor motivation to search through your profile to see if there are series caches that you’ve been finding

I just happened to recall this particular cache, because we very much enjoyed doing the caches in this challenge series of yours that still remained (and had wished the bonus “challenge” cache were still active). In fact, we “borrowed” one of your archived spots as a bit of a tribute, making it part of our own “Pulaski Series” challenge, since one of your Solar System challenge caches was the first cache we found as a family team.

In my mind, “challenge” is synonymous with “series” or “6 pack” or whatever, and there are lots of people placing and finding these types of caches. The difference, as I said, is only in the degree of difficulty.

Ah. I don’t lump them all in the same league. In my mind, Challenge is not synonymous with series or 6 pack. I think of a challenge as well..a challenge in regards to time, distance, resources and requirements (usually requiring a lot).

To me, Bonuses and 6 packs are nothing more than simple extras for doing something requiring much, much shorter duration, time, distance, resources and requirements.

As for finding caches that belong to a series, I cache for the fun of finding caches in the area I’m at, not because a particular cache belongs to a challenge or series. Hm…If I start ignoring all caches that belong (or could easily be logged as part of) a series or challenge – I don’t think I’ll have any caches show up on a PQ. LOL

As it is, for me, challenge caches do not provide any motivation, desire or purpose. And I’m fine with that.

Well, I’ve been doing this for a few years and haven’t completed any challenge caches, which must mean they don’t interest me. I think I’ve only completed 2 6-pack caches as well, Honey of a Cache and Pulaski, from recollection. Oh, yeah, I almost completed Zoe’s Sudoko series, although I skipped one to get to the final.

The problem with these series caches it that as soon as one goes MIA, you can find yourself floundering for the final or bonus. That, or some other circumstance can leave you guessing. I still have a sour taste in my mouth for the Beefies series, the final for which I couldn’t find because a number was missing from one of the caches. Spent the better part of 3 hours getting that series only to come up short on the final because of an oversight – or something – the missing number was replaced with the words “e-mail me”. What? I’m a hundred miles from home and you want me to e-mail you for a number so I can complete this series?

Personally, I tried to get around this by making the criteria for the Laughing Waters series final “You must log every cache in the series before you can find the final”. But still I run into the issue of dealing with MIA caches. At least it keeps pressure on me to keep them all active.

So, while I’ve looked at Well-Rounded, I’ve no intention of pursuing. And I certainly have no interest in some of these other challenge ideas, but for some prolific cachers, I suppose it’s a good distraction and just another fun way to compete with their piers.

Yes; we have changed all the bonus caches for our challenges–offhand I think we have four–to ALRs. Solves all the most common, non-maintenance-related problems.

Wisconsin NFL Challenge just came out. Fairly easy.

    So, the next one ………….

    “What’s with the name Challenge”

Cache must have the name of the city it is located in, in it’s title.

    Appleton – Appleton Death Ray
Beaver Creek – Beaver Creek Cemetery
Camp Verde – Camp Verde View

I’d probably allow caches anywhere in the US, to make it slightly easier.
