So what do y’all think of the new announcement on Groundspeak’s Challenge program? I need to look into it some more but it looks interesting. 😎

At first glance it looks…well, lame. We’ll see.
…It does remind me of reverse geocaches though in that there (I’m assuming) will be so many challenge listings that it will be hard to pick out anything that is relevant to you…but again that is an assumption.
08/18/2011 at 1:42 pm #1951969I love doing ‘Challenge’ caches, but these new challenges…meh. I’ll check them out but I don’t have high hopes going in.
08/18/2011 at 2:06 pm #1951970I think they picked a terrible name for them, and I think its funny the one is a photo challenge, while ALR’s like pictures for other caches are banned. I am trying to be optimistic on these but its hard.
08/18/2011 at 4:37 pm #1951971So, looks like this is how the Virtuals are being brought back. Fits the promised timing, but looks like a very different twist, at least from the promo cartoon we’ve seen. Although, there were all those gnarly Phooning Virtuals…………………. 🙂
08/18/2011 at 6:28 pm #1951972This maybe kind of interesting.
I wonder if anyone in the Wausau Area is Kid enough?!?!
08/18/2011 at 6:28 pm #1951973I don’t quite understand it yet. Can you challenge people to do your caches or what?
08/18/2011 at 6:34 pm #1951974After a brief look, we were not impressed. Maybe it will grow on us…. 😕

Same here…maybe I just don’t “get it” yet. These look even more like the old reverse caches to me now (at least the “World-wide” challenge caches). There was reason they got rid of those…..

Same here. I seen one Kiss a Frog looks kinda dumb
http://www.geocaching.com/challenges/view.aspx?cx=CX308/18/2011 at 6:44 pm #1951977Just finished reading all the FAQ’s. And….eh, maybe I’ll do some, maybe not. I guess it doesn’t really seem that interesting to me. I couldn’t see any other challenges except the Kiss A Frog one, can anyone else?

Same with us-you can’t search by postal code, but we tried using the GC code for one of our nearby caches and it just said there weren’t any challenges near us. “Kiss a Frog” seems to be getting lukewarm reviews from the number of “thumbs down” votes. If this is their long-awaited return of virtual caches……. 🙄
08/18/2011 at 6:55 pm #1951979Here’s a link to the Challenge FAQ’s
http://www.geocaching.com/challenges/faq.aspx08/18/2011 at 6:59 pm #1951980Really???
At first glance, this seems poor. It will be interesting to see how this concept evolves. It appears that the challenges will not be counted as “finds”.
The fact that there will be no review of the challenges is almost frightening. Theoretically, I could challenge someone to post a picture of people doing anything anywhere (i.e. take a picture of yourself partaking of the services at the Bunny Ranch). I am sure some of you can use your imaginations.
08/18/2011 at 7:04 pm #1951981From the FAQ’s
How do I prove that I completed a Challenge?
Challenges run on the honor system. Say you completed it? We believe you. After all, you’re only cheating yourself!Run numbers, Run! (insert stinky skunk emoticon here)
