08/10/2009 at 4:28 pm #1909666I was at this event. We scouted out a few potential IATCC’s I’m kinda new to Earthcaching and not knowing the ins and out of developing a successful Earthcache/IATCC. This event was sponsored by the Ice Age Trail Alliance. I haven’t been very active on this forum for a long time. I’m glad I have returned. I see some helpful hints. One thing while I was up at this event. I came up with my own placement authorization form. Let me know what you think.
Dear Land Manager,
Hello, my name is Jim Johnston. I am a member of the Ice Age Trail Alliance. I am also an avid EarthCacher. http://www.earthcache.org An EarthCache is a geological site that provides an Earth science lesson. The EarthCache takes people to the site that can help explain the formation of the landscape. An EarthCache provides accurate but simple explanations of what visitors will experience at the site. The EarthCache must involve visitors undertaking some educational tasks that relate to the Earth science at the site. An EarthCache along the Ice Age Trail is known as an Ice Age Trail ColdCache (IATCC). The Ice Age Trail Alliance has developed a program as a goal to bring more visitors to the trail and promote public awareness, appreciation, and understanding of Wisconsin’s glacial landscape. Participants should not have to leave the trail, nor will they take or leave objects. We adhere to the principles of Leave No Trace outdoor ethics. The ColdCache program awards participants with certificates and patches for locating a number of land formations on the trail. If you would like to see some examples of IATCC’s you may visit this site http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?key=iatcc
I am contacting you because I am interested in developing a ColdCache site on your property that you manage along the Ice Age Trail. The land formation I would like to reference as a site is the ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬___________________ and would be part of the educational experience they will learn by visiting this site. N00 00.000 W000 00.000
As part of the EarthCache submission, permission must be granted from you the land manager. I am seeking permission from you to develop an EarthCache/ColdCache on your property. If you have any additional rules and regulations that you would like me to include, I would be happy listing them. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have regarding this program.
Please consider allowing approval for this site. I have enclosed a ColdCache Placement Authorization Form and an S.A.S.E. for your convenience.Thank you for your time.
Jim Johnston
