Hello, my name is Chris Stolte, if looking on a cache page you would see me as ‘MTCLMBR’ (pronounced Mountain Climber 😉 ). I originally grew up in the Twin Cities and went to Iowa State University before moving up to Fond Du Lac for work. After living in Fond Du Lac for 6 years my wife and I have moved to the Madison area about a year and a half ago. During the day I am a Application Developer at Yahara Software. My wife and I have been married almost 3 years and have a mini dachshund.

I found my first cache in November of 2012. I came across geocaching when I bought my GPS, a Garmin GPSMAP 62STC, originally for my mountaineering and backpacking activities. With this GPS it came preloaded with some geocaches and was curious as to what this was. So I found my first 10 caches in a few days. After that I only found a few caches here and there over the next couple years which during that time had introduced my dad.

It wasn’t until 2015 that I finally breached 100 caches…. and 1000 caches when I really jumped in. In terms of finds I have slowed down a little bit for a few reason but the passion is still there, just not able to get out as often as I used to. I enjoy all types of caches for various reasons. I enjoy a quick PnG at times to cover the fix but will enjoy taking the time and spend an hour+ after one multi, to solving a puzzle while the blizzard keeps me in.

I have also really enjoyed hiding (Over 480 hides), maybe some of you have found one of mine. As with finding I also enjoy hiding a range of types. Most known I have hid a couple Geoart trails near Fond Du lac, the Lighthouse and Windmill, a few puzzles, caches needing a hike, electronic gadget cache, and more.

As for wanting to run for BOD. I’ve been asked for a number of years but have kept postponing. I have been involved as the webmaster for the WGA since 2016 and my excuse kept being that since I was helping with it that that was enough. These last couple of election rounds I have had a lot of debating if I should run or not and finally have decided that it might be time to step up my involvement.

I’m not sure what I can all do or bring to make the WGA better but I’m game to see what we could/can all do together. I think that are a lot of different areas that can be improved or revisited in what the WGA does. I’m looking forward to giving back to the geocaching community in a new and additional way than I have before. I’m happy to hear what the members have and want to say and see what possibilities we can create. I’m always open to answering any questions so don’t be afraid to reach out.
