Does anyone out there use a Chrome OS power computer to move PQs to their GPSr? Can it do this? What GPSr are supported?

My wife and I are looking into a new computer/browser and this is soemthing important to me. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

I own the CR-48, which is a prototype/testing computer Google gave to me to test Chrome OS out on. I don’t know about now since I haven’t been able to use it for the past 5 months but back in December it wouldn’t work with my Garmin Oregon 450 at all. It simply would not read the device. I will have to give it a look at when I get home and have the time to see if it works. I know the Chrome OS software has surpassed the CR-48’s hardware and I don’t think they push out new updates to it now.

Hi, I went out on a limb since I was using a very old laptop and purchased a new Chromebook. While I did not attempt to use the auto loading option for moving gpx files to the GPSr, it does recognize my Magellan and allows me to move the caches there one at a time. Probably not the best option for you “power cachers” but it does work. I will update this thread if and when I attempt a more complicated upload, like a PQ.

Our gps is not supported by our chromebook. So nothing can be loaded to the gps via chromebook.

Just to let you all know, I have been able to get the Garmin Oregon recognized and upload GPX files to it from the Chromebook. I also have been able get PQs to work when transferred from the Chromebook.

Yeah, the new updates to Chrome OS allow the Garmin to be used. Chrome OS has come a long way since it first came out. It’s a nice cheap little laptop to carry in the car while you go caching.
