City Select and Mapsource Topo for navigation

We’re Getting the 60CS, and have read that the City Select Maps are awesome. (We’ve also experienced it when geocaching with Team Lotsacache while doing the BoB series)

However, until I fork over the $100+ for it, will the turn-by-turn directions work with the roads that are in my Mapsource Topo v4?

I tried using topo maps to auto route with my 60cs when i first got it…..lets just say I wasn’t happy lol. Most of the time it would get me within 10-20 miles then tell me to go cross country….and since my 2wd s-10 doesn’t like swamps too much, that wasn’t going to work too well.

the City Select software is great though. the only problems i’ve had with it is in the lake hallie area, where they’re adding the hwy 53 bypass…..which is understandable since those are new roads.

on a side note, i wonder when that bypass is going to be done.

You can load both MapSource CitySelect maps and MapSource Topo maps into this gps. Similar to the GPS V and the GPS MAP 76CS. You can select which one you want the gps to be using. CitySelect is the map software with auto-routing capability. If you try this with TOPO active, you will go on a wild goose chase!

But when you get out of the car, TOPO is real handy: you can tell if you’re on the correct side of a stream, etc.

Another question-
Does the Topo version display the same detailed road maps that the City Select maps do?

Just bought City Select but havent’ played with it yet. New 60CS should be here Wed.

In my opinion the Topo roads detail is pretty good, except that many are just named “road”. But if its the right “road” that’s all I ask for. I may not have it set to the highest detail–if it works the same way as when greyhounder turned her City Select to a higher detail.
