Hi,
I just spent an hour installing City Select into my computer, selecting all of Wisconsin and downloading it to my GPS. However, the maps are not at all detailed. I have major highways, but not the city streets that I thought I would get. I did go through the unlock wizard and all that. What am I doing wrong here?

04/10/2005 at 3:23 am #1740449My greatest disappointment too.
City select covers the large urban areas very well. Milwaukee, Chicago, Madison — its great. I always know where the nearest fast food is.
I assume you looked at Ft Atkinson and said what-the-heck or something similar. My city select is 3 years old and it doesn’t sound like it has improved its coverage.
04/10/2005 at 4:22 am #1740450A shot in the dark, but on my Legend I can change the map detail through the map settings menu within the unit. The factory setting is “normal”, but changing it to “more” or “most” brings in the detail, right down to even seeing the logging roads in the Black River State Forest.
Has anyone tried loading any of the other Mapsource products (like Roads & Recreation) into a 60 series? I know they won’t do autorouting, but the map detail would be there.
Also Bec, if you didn’t know, Garmin is offering a $50 rebate on the purchase of new color units.
04/10/2005 at 2:14 pm #1740451Bec – contact me off-line with the names of the roads you don’t see. I have been VERY impressed and happy with City Select. Are you running Version 6?
John04/10/2005 at 2:14 pm #1740452I had to change some of the settings in my 60CS to be able to zoom the details in. The version 6 software does have the newer subdivisions.
04/10/2005 at 2:52 pm #1740453yes, it is v6. I’ll fiddle around with the settings and see what happens. I can’t even get detailed map on my computer. I’m sure I did something wrong somewhere. IF I still have problems Cachew, I’ll drop you a line.

04/10/2005 at 4:56 pm #1740454On the computer, go to View > Map Detail > Highest. (This is the highest of 7 levels of detail available.)
While you’re at it, go to Edit > Preferences > Display > Services. Toggle to ON to see Points of Interest such as gas stations, food establishments, etc. You Garmin will also ‘find’ these POI in the field. It’s cool to know where the next nearest gas station is sometimes!
Now, you can select level of detail on the gpsr as well. Surf the Menu while in the Map screen display.
Happy geocaching form Cachew and Wicket.
04/10/2005 at 7:48 pm #1740455I agree with cachew.
and if that doesnt work, im shooting in the dark.. Try in Mapsource: Go to VIEW go down to just under ZOOM OUT REGION, make sure it says HIDE GPS MAP DETAILS. If you click that it will hide the detailed and click it again will bring back the details.. Just another option. Hope it helps.

“Be safe and Keep on Searchin”04/11/2005 at 12:56 am #1740456Yep — just had to fiddle with the settings. Actually, I’m finding the map detail to be pretty amazing! The points of interest are wild!
Thanks to everyone for their help!
04/20/2005 at 1:22 am #1740457You bet it’s awesome!! Have you tried the turn by turn on your 60CS yet? For example nav to a cache and select follow road. This was fantastic for doing the BoB series in IL. We have the 60C and it’s the best GPS we’ve had!
04/20/2005 at 1:26 am #1740458yep — I’ve done the turn by turn. It’s really handy!
