Please don’t banish me from the WGA if I got this wrong … I couldn’t decide if this was “Tech Talk” because I’m talking Technical … or “Off Topic” because it’s not directly geo-related .. so I closed my eyes and clicked.
Anybody have experience/knowledge regarding using Windows 7, and installing a Codec? I’m trying to use some software (Wave Breaker) that will end up taking a WAV and saving it as a MP3. The software worked fine on my old XP machine, but seems to be lacking a Codec (I think) on my new Win7. I’m thinking I need to get a copy of “Lame Codec” … but fear I’m going to mess something up with Win7. Even the thought of click on a download with the work “Lame” in it scares me.
Found this linky. http://www.click-now.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=6090.
I got it to work on 32bit Windows 7.
1.Download lame from http://sourceforge.net/projects/lame/files/lame/
2.extract files
3.in folder ACM, right click on LameACM.inf, and install.
4.It will prompt you to find “lameACM.acm”, which you can dload from http://www.codecs.com/LAME_ACM_Codec_download.htm
5.Happy days
He was using it for a different program, but from what I gather, it should work.
You might be interested in knowing that LAME stands for LAME Ain’t an MP3 Encoder. (Yeah, I know a recursive acronym. Very techy!) This is somewhat ironic as LAME is, specifically, an MP3 encoder.
I just fired off LAME in Windows 7 from a program called Audiograbber, and it works just fine.
If you send me a PM (or an e-mail) I would be happy to forward you the “.zip” file that contains LAME.
