Okay, I cannot get two computers to recognized my GPS device. I did downloaded the file from Garmin. What am I doing wrong?

try plugging your cord into your computer, then hold the power button on your gps and plug the cord into your gps. When you plug it in to the gps release the power button on your gps. This should cause the computer to force find your unit.
if it is a usb turn the gps on then plug it in
Make sure you only use the USB cable that came with the unit. If I try to use a regular USB cable I have the same problem and it only finds it once in a while (rarely) and won’t stay connected. With the Garmin cable that has the little filter thing on it it always sees it. Hope that helps.
Also, this device tries to read your mind. If you plug it in turned off, it connects as an external drive (like a thumb drive). If you plug it in turned on, it connects as a GPS. Also, be sure to install the Mapsource software that comes with the unit. This also installs the drivers, which you might need.
Is there a way to reinstall the software? I am getting a strange message when I try to download a cache and even though it is recognizing the device, it doesn’t load. Tried 3 GPSs and it all comes up with the same message.
What the message you are getting. also make sure that your gps sees the cache. also try a different gps cord. check the usb port it may not be working. try another one. also is one of the pins shorted out or broke
I updated the Communicator 4.0.1 on my Mac. When I tried to load a cache into the Garmin after that, I got a long “path” sentence instead of the Successful message that I usually got. Turns out the 4.0.1 version for Mac doesn’t work and you need to use 4.0.1.1 version. Thanks Garmin
