    Candidates,
As a BOD member, your time and effort will be spread across many different projects, tasks and responsibilities. If you were only allowed to concentrate your efforts on one pet project, what would that project be?

    Northern Wisconsin!

What I am finding out and learning about the WGA, is that the individuals involved and doing all this work are doing a wonderful job.

As a new member in both communities (Geocaching and the WGA) the thing that sticks out the most to me is Northern Wisconsin. I spend over a 100 days each year at my cottage in the Chequamegon, and my permanent residence is an Island in Northeast Wisconsin. I don’t perceive the same support, activity, and involvement of geocachers up here as there is in Southern Wisconsin.

I want to know why! Get them in, get them back, get them involved. I have many ideas on how to do this and would like to lead this charge as a board member.

Community education would be the area I would most want to work on. Informing law enforcement about our hobby is more important now then it ever has been in the past. Given the current fear of “unattended packages” it seems to me that we need to educate law enforcement about geocaching and try to head off some of the unfortunate occurrences that have happened around the state involving geocaches being blown up.

I know that the community education committee has done some great work thus far and I would want to continue to support that effort.

I agree with Rob that community education would be my pet project. I am in strong agreement with the local official’s education but I also find great value in general community education both in and out of schools as well. I also agree that great strides have recently been made here with the committee but I would make sure those efforts were enhanced and continued.

I would have to agree with Northwoods Tom, The Northwoods would be my pet project, I think that Geocachers in Our neck of the woods feel left out of the WGA because all of the events happen in the southern part of the state, I understand that the majority of the membership lives in that area, but is it fair for us in the North to have to travel the 3-4-5 hours every time to attend events? It should go both ways, If a bigger event would happen in the North, I would hope that new possible members would show up at the bigger event. Granted we do not have a cache every .1 up here, but there are still some very cache dense areas to hold events to draw up the southern number hounds. I have some ideas in mind, but will wait to see if I end up elected to bring them to light.

I replied to this question yesterday, why it didn’t post, I do not know.

I imagine that I would ask to be used for any project that best fits my skill set, or where I could be used the most. Now if you’re asking me personally what project I’d ask to be assigned, I would have to ask to work the Geocoin project, simply because that was the project I had the most fun with last year. A close second would be educating community leaders, because this seems to be an area that could benefit our sport the most.

I think my pet project would have to be a split between communities and membership, as they go hand in hand. I would like to educate the law enforcement and maybe get out into schools and teach the kids about geocaching, which in turn leads to parents getting involved and then we start to get new members. Same as with law enforcement and media get them involved show them what it is about and who knows we might get a match lit under some people and they will join the WGA. And they then tell a friend and we start to build up the WGA and its membership.
